View Full Version : Anyone have info on the Watson .50 upper?
I've been looking at making the .50bmg leap for two reasons. Shooting, and as an investment (possible ban). I've been looking at the Watson upper http://www.watsonsweapons.com/50boss.htm
and the serbu
http://www.serbu.com/bfg50.htm
I don't need the greatest, I'm looking for something with a good cost vs. value ratio for a recreational shooter. Please let me know if you've shot either, or know there pros/cons.
Thanks

Here's the two major differences, the WW upper goes onto a AR15 lower and the Serbu BFG is a true bolt action style rifle.
The loading/firing/unloading of the WW is VERY slow, you have to "shotgun" the upper, unscrew (yes I said unscrew) the bolt from the upper, load a round onto the bolt and then screw it back in. Re-assemble the upper and then your ready to shoot.
The BFG is already a complete rifle so all you have to do is keep loading it everytime you cycle the action.
There are better .50 uppers out there that don't require all the steps like the WW. Check out the Ferret50 www.ferret50.com or the ALS upper www.50bmg.net or the UltraMag50 www.safetyharborfirearms.com (this is the only one that's MAG FED).

I bought a Watson's upper for my first try at .50 BMG and I can tell you for an $800 (used) investment it was well worth it.I really didnt want to spent a ton of money just to see if I liked this caliber so I looked into something cheap and the Watson fit the bill. After I shot it I was really hooked and decided to upgrade to something easy and faster to load.I now have a semi and a bolt action which is alot faster to reload but then again are you in a big hurry to shoot 10 rounds as fast as you can pull the trigger?Anyways the Watson takes exactly (1) minute to unload and re-load so its not all that slow.So the bottom line is if you can afford something over 2k look into a complete rifle and if your budget is under $1200 look into the Watson.....
