Free speech synthesizer?

Years ago I had a free speech synthesizer. I paid nothing for it, it was available free to download. I would type text and it would come out in a computerized voice as english. I cannot, for the life of me, find a free speech synthesizer. Does anyone know of one? Even the original one I had (It was a long time ago I wouldn't know the name) would be cool to have again. It was a stand alone program, probably some VB thing, but it worked great.
