Nice gun.
I put a pair of Houges on mine and just love it.

Good choice. I have a Custom Stainless II that has been my best purchase yet. Like obxprnstar, I put some Pachmayr wrap around grips on it which made a huge difference.

Good looking gun Earl,
My friends and I have been real happy with our Kimbers. I have 4 with the lastest, and I think best (for my use), being the Tactical Ultra.
It's very accurate out to 50 yards and totally reliable.:)

I love them.
I've got one with the rails. The finish on my gun has been, lets say, sensitive. The gun is not that old but the finish has wear spots and is very water sensitive (rust spots).
I've added an extended slide release lever. I'm currently taking her apart for a refinish job. Very tough coating - like a thin ceramic. At the end of the day, she will look a lot like this:

Didn't you just steal that thing back in April!?
That was the deal of the month if I remember right....
Kimber makes a nice pistol... Enjoy your new 1911.

AWESPOME MEMORY. Yeah, $425 or so if I remember correctly. No biggie. Traded that and an AR for a HK93. ;f
I have had my TLE for almost two years now, I love this gun. I ended up selling a Colt Combat Commander and a Springfield because they never made it out of the safe. The only change I made was a set of Hogue lamo camo grips. This is one gun that I don't see parting with.

My Compact CDP will never be let go or parted with.
I hated to part with my Ultra Carry 2 days ago, because I was one of the lucky ones who got a flawless one, but I needed the money for a new house...

A deal like that is hard to forget - even if somebody else got the deal. I'd say you made out pretty good - that is as long as you have another AR to run side by side with your 93;)

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback and nice pics. I will have to look into the wrap around grips. I did that to my Ruger Slabside target pistol and it made a big difference. This is my first 1911 and so far so good. It's just hard getting used to only 8 rounds. ;I
As far as the finish goes, I talked to the guys at the local gun shop and they steered me away from the Eclipse two tone finish. They said it didn't hold up. I had all intentions of getting a Stainless finish, but all I saw was a dull bead blast type finish. I wanted more of a satin or brushed look. This Law Enforcement Tactical custom caught my eye. I haven't holstered it all that much, but so far so good.
Yes, definitely into SCUBA diving...since 1990. I have slowed down alot lately, but I have over 250 dives and 200 hours underwater.
Thanks again,
Earl
1. The pics should really go into the Gun and Accessories Picture Club forum too (it's got plenty of space left for good "barely legal" gun porn).
2. Now a bayonet lug would look good on that Kimber...

Earl [/B] NICE gun Earl. As far as the ECLIPSE, I bought one when they first come out. I have not had any problems with the finish. In fact it's one of my favorite Kimbers. I got Five. P.S. Ever gone diving in the Florida Keys? I started diving before you even had to have a License for a tank refill, My first license was through the Y.M.C.A. When I was with 7th Special Forces we would fly to Key West and Parachute into the ocean with full scuba gear. NOTHING like standing in the door of a C-130 half naked...

Looks like a TLE. I think that is one of the best values in 1911s. Congratulations!

I'm very happy with my TLE. Put 200 rounds through it the first time at the range - no problems. Real accurate and I love the sights. Not to mention the checkering.

Ten round mags are readily available however, due to the single stack design of the 1911, the ten round mags hang out the bottom about a couple inches.

RedDawn - That sounds awesome!! I know guys like you, I don't know how you did it. ^c ^c Diving back then seems crazy compared to today's standards.

If I were refinishing because of rust forming, I'd certainly have the grip safety and thumb safety done as well.

Read the ARCHIVES, Kimbers are a CRAP SHOOT. If you get a good one fine, if you get one like DAVE RICHARDS your are unhappy.
If you read enough archive material, you'll find that ANY gun purchase is a crap shoot.
Put out enough units, and you're going to have an occasional lemon.
Overall, Kimber makes a nice gun. Is it perfect? No. Nothing is perfect. Any mechanical device can malfuction or break at any time.
The vast majority of Kimbers are just fine. Like every manufacturer, lemons come along. From what I've seen, Kimbers have a lot less problems than some with "lifetime warranties".
