Every time I right-click on a file or the start button Explorer attempts to access the internet. My firewall stops it, but it's annoying waiting for it. Explorer will do this for awhile, then it will seem to quit for awhile. I'm on Win2K with cable internet.

I've had similar problems, for me they've always been spyware or something similar. The last time was something called "Ottr...", that kept showing up when I checked the task manager. It took awhile to dig it out (spyware programs DIDN'T get rid of it), but I deleted it. I still don't know what it came from.

Make sure to check that in your preferences your computer will not go online automatically, you have to give it the ok.

I don't know if any of this will help!

It didn't.

I updated Ad Aware and it's definition file and scanned. It came up with quite a few things (hadn't done it in awhile}, but removing them all and rebooting didn't help. Any other ideas?

Thanks. I'm new to Xbox and absolutely love Halo!

Explorer has now stopped trying to access the internet with no apparent action from me. It comes and goes seemingly on it's own. I can't explain it...

Try AdAware,Spybot and CCleaner.A really strong antispyware program is Spy Sweeper. It's free for 30 days.Download the updates when you install it.I ran Trend Micro's Housecall online scanner and it found an infected file that Norton missed.

Sounds like your registry has been added to.
Google your problem, (hopefully) find a keyword, search the registry and I bet you find a string that is causing this.
