View Full Version : Logging Internet Activity
I think somebody has been using one of our computers for porn. I want to catch them rather than just assume.
Does anybody know of any good programs that will record ALL Internet activity? Free would be great, but I am open to purchasing too. One that requires a password to access the Internet would be great if it is hard to get around the password.
I am running Win 98SE on this system and upgrading to XP Pro is out off the question as the primary user won't consider it.
There are some monitoring utilities here http://majorgeeks.com/downloads6.html Make sure the one you choose works with your operating system.
I have a PC with Windows 98SE for almost 5 years.I highly recomend CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com It's free and there is a bug in 98SE that doesn't clean temp internet files.CCleaner works very well without causing any problems.I just found Spy Sweeper http://webroot.com It's much more powerful than AdAware and Spybot. You can only get updates for 30 days but it works past the 30 days without subscribing. It also gives running protection too.I've run current AdAware and Spybot for a couple of years and Spy Sweeper found things that were 4 years old on my PC.Win 98SE really needs CCleaner.I wouldn't go without it.
I recall that you the same Netgear router that I do.
You can read the router logs for any access to porn sites, and you can also set up an email notification if any further access of sites you block is attempted.
In the browser address line type
A dialog box will pop up
user name: admin
default password is in your router manual, unless you have changed it, which you should do immediately
your routers configuration utility will start and you can access the features I mentioned under the "LOGS" heading in the content filtering section.the blocking and email heading are right there too
I would have never thought about that... Of course the router would help there! I always miss the easy, obvious stuff ;g
