View Full Version : Step By Step Instructions For Unfreezing A Pm9 Please
A friend of mine re-assembled his PM9 in such a way that he "froze" the slide in the open position. I can sympathise with him because I know how careful I had to be while re-assembling my own PM9.
Now he wants me to fix his problem.
I'm usually pretty good at solving these kind of problems, however, I want to be sure how to do this so I don't ruin his gun.
Any help please?

It turns out that my friend actually inserted the slide stop through the frame IN FRONT OF the barrel lug. He did this by cycling the slide all the way back and inserting the slide stop in front of the barrel lug. He then dropped the slide and now it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to remove the slide stop. The trigger now squeezes freely without any resistance.
Bad ju-ju.
He is sending the gun back to Kahr to see if they can do anything about it.
Might turn out to be nothing more than an expensive paperweight before it's all over.
1. pull slide back
2. remove pin
3. reassemble properly?

As the old saying goes, "When all else fails, read the instructions".

I did the same thing the first time i pulled the gun (PM9) apart and put it back together.
Takes 2 guys to get it apart (well makes it easier anyway)
You hold the gun and retract the slide as farback as you need to, to release the tension off of the slide stop. Have your buddy push the slide stop down as if releasing the slide and tap on the slide stop with a plastic mallet or screw driver handle form the other side to push it out. The slide stop has a small tab that holds it behind the slide. You can see this by moving the slide slightly forward. You must make sure that it is clearing the slide stop cutout. REMOVE the mag and it will make it easier. This gun has a super tight slide stop and it does take a lil muscle to get the pin out.

Michigun:
That is exactly the condition of his gun.
The interesting thing is that we bought our PM9's at the same time. as it turns out, mine has had 90 rounds put through it with no problem at all. He has put about 100 rounds through his with about 4 FTF's. And now this. He HATES this gun and has ranted that it vexes him so much that he wants to cut the frame up and throw it in the trash.
Funny thing is that he couldn't stop praising it before he shot the thing, and subsequently reassembled it in this position.
Well, I guess that's why we graduated from law school together and not engineering school.
Motomoon:
Are you saying that after fully retracting the slide back, we push the slide stop down as if to release the slide if it was in the normal rearward position, then push the slide stop out from the other side?
Gunmeister:
Instructions? We don't need no stinkin instructions!
Instructions might have the effect of preventing problems like this...and what would all of those out-of-work gunsmiths do if that happened?!?
You go to an armorer to get your gun taken apart.
You go to a gunsmith to get it put back together.

Drop the mag, pull the release all the way back till it stops. With the mag out you dont need to worry about pushing the slide stop lever down. Once you push it back this far you will see the lil tab on the slide stop lever showing through the slide stop cut out. Hold the slide in that position. Tap out the slide stop lever per normal tear down procedures.
I put my gun together wrong on purpose as you had happen and was able to disassemble it again with no problems. The gun is locked back with the barell not sticking out past the slide like it should as a result of putting the slide stop lever into the gun ahead of the barrel "locking hole" In the future make sure you line up the witness marks on the side of the slide and the frame before inserting the slide stop lever.

Sorry, I meant pull the slide back not the release.
