KNOW 1

Date: 26, November 2004
Time: Between 8:00am and 8:30am
Temp: Mid to low 30's
Pistol: Para Ordnance P10-45 (3 inch barrel)
Ammunition: Winchester 185gr STX Silver Tip (Perhaps, older version, as I could not find it on their web site.
Shot: 15yd (approx) Standing, off-hand with quilted leather gloves.
Target: Whitetail deer (doe)
Weight: Unknown
Result: Struck two inches down, at the middle of the left shoulder bone. Passed through the bone, one or both lungs (bright red blood?) and lodged in the hide on the right side. No visible indication of the bullet on the outside, that I could find. Bullet mushroomed beautifully (not as symmetrical as an advertisement, but close for the conditions)
At my father in-laws over the Thanksgiving weekend. He sent me out a couple of times to try to snag a deer, but to no avail (his rifle, I did not take mine). I then set out, on the 26th, to still hunt with my P10.
Sent this to a friend.
-----The two shoulders, two hams and back straps weighed out to about #75. I was "still" hunting, came to a good shooting lane in the pine trees, waited, and she came up about 15yds in front of me and walked right across the lane. Snicked off the safety, brought my P10 into position, anticipated her pace, waiting for her ribs to line up in my sights! She turns, stops, spots me, I fire. No blood where I shot at her. I wait as you advised. Look for more blood in the same spot, nothing. After I feel enough time has passed , I follow her path within a 15yd area, still nothing. About to give up, I decide to search a small area in the direction she ran. Approximately 30-40yds from the point that I hit her, she was laying just over a little rise, what looked like, still in full stride. I'm pretty happy!---
I realize I was not following pistol safety protocol, but this was due to the circumstances. With these gloves on, I had to keep my the excess glove tip inside the trigger guard, pressed against the inside of the trigger guard. This was to insure the tip of my finger reaching the trigger. Also, in this position, I could not effectively release the safety, but with my weak hand. Not an excuse, I just adapted to bring the pistol, for my intended use, into play as quickly and effectively as possible.(A disclaimer in case anyone thinks I released the safety too soon)
Conclusion: I can kill a deer with it. All items performed as or better than expected (including me). I knew the P10 could do it. I now know the Win's will do it. Just a little more assurance in what I already had confidence in.
Hope you ain't asleep yet.
Thanx
