View Full Version : PM9 and MK9
I have been looking at the PM9 and MK9 for a BUG but was wondering if they are the same size with the MK9 difference being that it isn't polymer. I have shot the PM9 and like it but I haven't seen a MK9 in the stores I've been to here. Is there an advantage to one over the other? Which would you recommend? Any input would be great since (except for the one shooting with the PM9) I am not familiar with Kahr.

The MK9 and PM9 are essentially the same size, with the MK9, being of robust all steel construction, considerably heavier than its polymer brother. The PM9 also is a bit slimmer through the grips and carries with it some minor differences such as a smaller diameter recoil spring assembly.
Since I do not pocket carry, my hands down choice is the MK9 which is designed to withstand a lifetime of full house ammo. Were I to pocket carry or purchase a deep concealment BUG, I'd go with the PM9 purely for weight savings, although some anecdotal reports might lead one to believe that less recent specimens have had their problematic moments.

I started out with a an MK9 and after a year or so of pocket and ankle carry I promptly replaced it with a PM9. I did like the all steel construction of the MK9 and lord knows I shot my share of ammo through it but it was a trip to NYC that showed me just how heavy the MK9 can be after a week of pocket carry. I like my PM9 and after a few hundred trouble free rounds I do not feel that I gave up anything. I actually feel better now that the PM9 goes everywhere that I go. Either one is a fine quality pistol but the lighter weight of the PM9 was well worth the purchase. I did trade off the MK9 for a Sig P228 (action tuned by Teddy Jacobson) with one hi-cap mag and one ten round mag.

Ditto .. Thanks for beating me to a response Gunmeister.
I started with the MK 9 also. Great little gun. Loved it. To me, it felt like it was made of depleted uranium. It didn't fill nearly the same niche as the PM9. Both great guns in their own right, but, I eventually traded of the MK9 and carry the PM9 90% of the time in the right front pocket. I shot Federal +P+ in my MK9. That ammo beat the crap out of my PM9, so, I traded off some horsepower for alot of weight. Worthwhile for me. With no +P or +P+ loads, its still a decent round that I can carry easily. Both were superbly accurate and reliable.
Thanks for the help everybody! I am leaning to the PM9. Now I just need to do a little shopping around to get a good price. Thanks again!
