This subject gets posted every three weeks here. rblack 11-30-2004, 20:32 In the $500 range I would first look at a Springfield milspec. These are very solid guns, shoot very well, and lend themselves to future upgrades. You get a lot of gun for the money and they can be had in a parkarized, or OD green finish, as well as in stainless. SpringField Armory Mil Spec 1911 -good basic 1911 with some modern upgrades (better sights and flared ejection port) 2. Springfield Armory GI 45 1911 -good wwII configerration 3. Rock River Armory 1911 -maybe not as nice as the Springer but good shotter for the money 4. Auto Ordanance 1911 - I here the quality as gone up sence Khar got involved. MartialMan.45 11-30-2004, 23:27 NRM colt or springer GI are both great guns around 500$ WFO2 12-01-2004, 03:43 I would add Rock island to that ...Imported by Armscor not to bad for an entry level 1911 akapennypincher 12-01-2004, 06:55 Colt Goverment Series 80 NIB about $550.00 RojasTKD 12-01-2004, 11:55 Oops... I ment Rock Island Armory not Rock River. WFO2 12-01-2004, 12:54 Yeah I think you can get the Rock Island 1911 for like 319.00.....It was my first one to learn with.....You dont feel so nervous when you take a dremel to it.......ha GunnDogg44 12-01-2004, 21:29 Colt series 80, dont they have the firing pin block ??????? I hear they have some non standard internal parts, Bogey 12-01-2004, 22:14 Try the Springfield XD series. I have several friends that love their's. bigblue 12-01-2004, 23:48 Xd doesn't come in 45acp nor is it a 1911 that's why I'm in 1911 club also anyone tried the springer milspec in 9mm what's it like Mushinto 12-03-2004, 20:15 Originally posted by GunnDogg44 Colt series 80, dont they have the firing pin block ??????? Colt 1991 with the new rollmark.... or springfield milspec ( has better sights than the W W I I milspec } .... either gun will be good to go . The colt will be a few dollars higher, but is money well spent. The springfield loaded models are a bit more and a great value also. BillK@tcmhmrs.o 12-09-2004, 15:49 Keep your eyes peeled for a Colt 1991, it's reliable in my experience. The only real decision is whether you want a full size or the Commander. I bought my Commander new in 97 for $465, it's run reliably until I wore out the recoil spring and it wouldn't go in battery. DOH! Got a new Wolff spring and am working on the second 5,000 rounds through it. I shoot probably 99% hardball ammo in it with Wilson Mags, and splurged $140 on it for a Black T job from Walter Birdsong. It's a great gun. I read horror stories about different brands ( and about Colt's as well), but I've been really happy with mine. I was totally satisfied with it and even have used it with my CCW. That is, until a G36 with night sights came along for $425. I've enjoyed the reduction in weight and ease of carry. I'm used to carrying 7 rounds so the G36 is more than adequate! I do wish the G36 used a 1911 magazine- that would really be a feat! quantico 12-11-2004, 16:37 Originally posted by BillK@tcmhmrs.o Keep your eyes peeled for a Colt 1991, it's reliable in my experience. I can't PM you or email you... let me know where you got the gun done in black -T for 140.oo That sounds like a decent price. I had heard that Walter Birdsong will do a complete gun for about 100 bucks if you have an FFL.... is that true ???? Anyone ?? vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
