What's your point?

And I'm new to the wonderful, high-powered world of the .50 BMG, but 2900 FPS seems rather slow.... ^8

Oh.

Well you should have said so in your post. ;)

It is supposed to be great ammo and I'm actually going to pick some up soon.... :)

It's pricey for steel core ball ammo, which is restriced at the public ranges in many places.

Hey Jonesey,

What FT/sec do you think a .50BMG should be shooting at?

I dunno...fast enough so that even if it misses you by three feet the shock wave will liquefy your internal organs. ;)

What is a better price for .50 ball ammo?

Here's the same stuff made by IMI but without the Barrett headstamp, http://www.gunbroker.net/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=26144295

Or you can go to www.ammoman.com and get some Talon .50, just remember that ALL surplus .50 is steel core.

Depending on what barrel lenght you have and load specs 2700 fps seems to be the norm.

Heres a basic chart for you to check out.

Maybe slow compared to a .204 Ruger or .220 Swift, but just think of the little difference in weight of the round!!!;P
Check your ballistics tables and see how much the MASS part of the equation figures into energy. Heck of a leap from 50 to 750 grains. Don't think I'd want to be on the butt end of a rifle shooting 4,000 fps 700 grain bullets!!! Am dang sure I don't want to be on the muzzle end of anything, period!!;f

A .50bmg round with a 750 grain projo has something in the neighborhood of 13,500 psi of stopping power.Would be like getting hit by a car!;P

I have some. It works fine. It costs more, but I just can't put surplus from who knows where in my guns, whether it is 22LR or 50BMG.

It's the EXACT same thing as the IMI, same factory. Except it was ordered by an American company, not a foreign govt.
