View Full Version : K9 value
Local store has a used K9 with the ported barrel. What are these things running?
I paid $350 OTD for a K40 with the factory ported barrel a few weeks ago at a gun show. Was pretty much mint and I feel it was a steal compared to what others seem to charge for used Kahr's around here.
If I had seen it at one of my local shops I would have expected it to be $450+.

$350 to $450 is about right depending on condition and geographic location. As I've said before, in West Florida, Kahrs are as popular as a rattlesnake bite and not worth much because nobody wants them. "UP North" (I hate that phrase) Kahrs draw more money.
OBTW, a ported barrel is not a plus, in fact it is a bargaining chip for a lower price. To begin with, you don't need a ported barrel in a Kahr 9MM, the recoil and muzzle flip is not that bad. Second is the blinding flash you get when the gun is fired in the dark which could cause you to be momentarily dazzled by the flash and you could lose track of a bad guy. Ported barrels do not lend themselves to CCW, some will disagree but those who truly know will agree.

There will be regional variation in cost, as well as the condition of the gun itself of course.
Here in Western WA, used stock (non-Elite) K9 appox $450-$475. I have not seen a ported barrel model, but agree with earlier comment on them for a CCW gun.

I agree with this 100%.

I own a ported G19c (along with my standard G19) Gunmeister & can’t say that I agree with ya on this one.
I fired my ported K40 quite a bit in a dimly lit range and never had a problem with the flash being bright. Can't say that for some other ported guns I've had though.
With that said mine is no longer ported, I cut and crowned the barrel because I didn't like the nub sticking out of the end of the gun. I feel no difference in felt recoil with it being gone either.
Also should add that a local store had a used E9 for ~$425 or $450 the same day I bought the K40 at the show, so NE Ohio is definitely on the upper end of the spectrum for used Kahr's.

;P I should say so! Around here NIB E9's go for less then $400... I've seen them for $349 a few times, but see $379 to $389 more often.
FYI & to no one in particular, If you get too much “flash” from a ported or compensated pistol with a particular ammunition, then you will also see too much “flash” from a like non-ported or non-compensated pistol using that exact same ammo… By all accounts a revolver wouldn’t/shouldn’t be a good CCW weapon because of the “flash” that comes from between its barrel/cylinder gap. I wonder why it is that you don’t hear revolver guys complaining about it? What makes the revolver so special/different?
IMHO there are only three MINOR faults with ported/compensated guns… #1 is that they are louder then their non- ported/compensated likes, #2 is they require a bit more cleaning & #3 is that you loss just a hair bit of velocity.
