what is the primary difference between scopes with 25mm tubes and 30mm tubes besides the obvious 5mm?
it appears that each brands 30mm body tube scope is their highest end product usually their tactical line and is considerably more priceir than their highest end 25mm tube scope
is the light transmission that much better or what is the huge benifit?
I think the disadvantage of needing higher rings to mount a 30mm scope outweighs the advantage of more light transmission in all but the most powerful scopes. If you really need that much light, go with a NVD. Remember, a scope on a rifle is not a spotting scope, but merely a more precise sight.
30mm's generally have more adjustability built in also. Good for very-long-range shooting.

yes, i will need all the adjustment i can get, this spring i will get to shoot at a 1000 yard range and am in the process of getting a new scope...
here is the kicker, it is going on top of a 20" barrel .308
now im not expecting pie plate groups or anything but i will be happy enough to keep 10 rounds on the 42"x42" target
i will be using a 10x scope and a ken farrell 20 moa base
i am considering the nikon 2.5x-10x 30mm tube tactical mildot model
any feedback on this combo would be appreciated
