There's not enough action in the music forum, so I'm a'gonna try to get some discusions started. I'm going to name a few bands I listen to and you folks can discuss them and tell me all about how my taste in music sucks. Yay!

Aren't they just a Blasters rip off band?

Nope. Old 97's play Alt Country and have no horns. The Blasters, as I recall, had kind of a blues/punk/rockabilly thing going on and featured a horn section.

The Old 97's to me sound like David Byrne meeting Johnny Cash.

Jason and the Scorchers could maybe be described as country with a big dose of punk/rock attitude thrown in. Their music ranges from lonely soulful types of songs to more frenetic stuff (definitely not bland). Only tune I can remember that had any airplay was "White Lies" many years ago. Their problem is that they really couldn't get any airplay because they don't fall into a definitive music category.

Essential, Vol. 1 (Are You Ready for the Country?) is a combination of their first EP & LP with some live tracks & extras thrown in.

If you get bored here's some more info.
