Hey all,

does anyone know the difference between factory Speer Gold Dot and Double Tap Gold Dot as far as velocity f.p.s and ft. lbs. energy, if any??? thanks in advance:)

Double Tap:
3.5" barrel - 1415fps
4.5" barrel - 1525fps

Speer:
4.0" barrel - 1350fps

Both have the same Gold Dot Bullet

I just ordered some double tap, I got a box of the gold dot and a box of the FMJ to try it out. Should be here in a week, I also have speer gold dots and I just got a box of Federal 125 JHP. When I get the double tap I plan on doing a side by side test, I have access to a chronograph, and plan on hitting some phone books, water jugs, ply wood and anything else we can think of. I have not seen any yet but does Remington, Winchester, PMC or anyone else make 125's ( or anything else for that matter) for the 357 sig which is readily available? The more I have the more I shall test to see which performs "best". Yes a highly subjective term, I should say which one I am personally happiest and most confident with. Oh I will be shooting them out of a G33, I just ordered a 40 conversion barrel for it but I don't know how much use I will be getting out of it, probably just go shoot some and say, see how much "better" it is in 357 !! Or if I am feeling cheap and want to pick up some cheap ammo.
What are all your thoughts....

Assuming you mean FMJ also...

Winchester makes 357Sig in the white box, Remington makes it in the UMC yellow box, and PMC has some as well (and I believe all three make JHPs as well).

Went out today, indoor range shot holes in paper only.
Put about 1/2 box of Federal 125 grain thru the G33, shot real nice.
Put about 1/2 box of double tap 125 FMJ thru it, much more kick, can't wait to chrono it, shot real nice, very hot load !!!
Swapped out to the 40 barrel, put 50 blazer FMJ's thru it I think 155 grain. This was the first time I used the 40 barrel, and only the third time I took the gun out. Shooting the 40 at first felt like a bb gun, I was just comming off the double tap 357 remember.
Anyhow after that I swapped barrels back and put some double tap 357 gold dots thru it. Hello !!!!
After all that I picked up my 9 and shot some white box 115, now that was like, oh man is this even going off. I can't wait to chrono this 357 stuff and shoot up some things ( like phone boooks, cans of water etc. ) to compare the different loads. So far I love this thing !!

Simply no comparison. I shot 2 boxes of Double Tap in my Sig 229, my 239 and my G32...it fed without a hitch and the accuracy and velocity are impressive. It felt like I had a real .357 S&W Magnum in my hands! When the weather gets nice I'll run some over my chrony...but for the time being all I can say this stuff is hot. Not dangerously so...but its potent stuff. If you have the jack and can afford to feed your guns a steady diet of DT, I recommend going to a heavier recoil spring. Speer GD loads pale in comparison!
McNett will be getting my order for 500 rounds at the end of the month!

Add me to the users that has switched to DT exclusively in my G33.

Alright, you've got me thinking...so it's ok to use DT exclusively? Stupid question perhaps, but is there any particular wear I need to worry about, or use stronger recoil springs?

Your standard springs will function perfectly. I like the feel of the 20lb. spring in my G32.

I had the chance to chrono DT .357 in two guns today. One was a Glock 35 with a factory length Jarvis .357Sig barrel, the other was a Sig P239 so that is probably a good representation of the fastest and slowest handgun performance in the caliber. As a benchmark for today’s results I also fired and measured some regular off the shelf Speer brand 125gr gold dots.

Speer Gold Dot vs. Double Tap

Aside from Chrono, has anyone performed certified 25 yard accuracy tests between the two specific ammunitions using Glocks in .357Sig . If so, which Glock models and what were the statistical outcomes? - - - Please point me to the tests, if available.

Thanks,

The Double Tap website claims virtually no flash and I can report back that they are right on with that claim. I was particularly worried about flash because I have a ported 357 Sig barrel that I dropped in to my Glock 35. That is to be my trail gun. So, muzzle flash could be a real problem in low-light with my ported "magnum force". Though I didn't have any Speer to demo, I can tell you the Double Tap FMJ and Gold Dot both have almost no flash.

EDIT 03-13-2006:
I recently tried the Double Tap Gold Dot out doors, at night, under a bright moon. This situation was considerably darker than my earlier test. There _is_ quite a flash from the port as one would expect but it was a deep orange color and did not affect my vision, or my friend's vision when he tried it. However as a comparison I tried some CCI Blazer 45ACP from a 1911; its large white muzzle flash drastically affected my vision. I suppose the deep orange flash is like having a red filtered flashlight. That would explain why it didn't impair my ability to make hits on a steel plate the size of the IDPA 0 ring at 18-20 yards.

Hey guys--never tried doubletap here. Seems a lot of you like it. What about recoil ? how about rapid fire accuracy because I assume the extra FPS comes from higher loads. I've noticed the big guys like Win, Rem, Speer and Federal are going ultra conservative on their loads so is there a downside?

I've bought about 3 cases from Double Tap, 45,40,357sig, nothing but excellent. I call my g33 with his loads "MIGHTY MOUSE", alot more controlable then a short wheel gun. Barstow barrel and Hienie straight 8's.

Using the above chrony data of 1594fps for a 125grn bullet that is 705ft/lbs!

the 700 #ers was from a G35 though.

Caliber : .357 Sig
Bullet : 125gr. Gold Dot JHP

3.5" (G33) barrel - 1415fps / 556 ft. lbs
4.0" (G32) barrel - 1450fps / 584 ft. lbs
4.5" (G31) barrel - 1525fps / 645 ft. lbs
5.32" (G35) - 1594fps / 705 ft. lbs

Estimating here, it seems they gain on average of 40-50fps per 1/2" of barrel added.
6.02" (G24) - 1644fps / 750 ft. lbs

Mr. McNett,

How come none of the larger ammo manufacturers have hired you up to make loads for them? I am amazed that your ballistics consistently outperform "factory" loads by the margain that they do. Are your loads above the pressure specs for them or something?

IIRC , most of Mike's loads aren't eve at a "+P" pressure level.

Tang 419, you are correct in your post about the official glock specs, however, have you actually tried these velocities to be true in the real guns?

IŽll give you my doubts--measure the length of your glock 31 barrel from the top tip of the chamber to the end, youŽll get the 4.49". But, that is NOT effective barrel length, you must discount the chamber portion which is about 820 thousandŽs less. So you get 3.67" of effective barrel length.
Now meassure the length of a SW 2.5" snubie .357 magnum and youŽll get the 2.5" from the cylinder end meets the barrel. That is advertised so and effectively so.

When ammo manufacturers publish their data they use barrel lengths but we never know exactly how effectively those barrels meet the length criteria. I have rarely been able to get the published 1150 FPS out of my golden sabers out of my G22, and Remington says they use a 4" barrel. It would be great to know the velocities out of the guns themselves.

Not sure I'm buying the idea that you need to disregard the chamber length when calculating barrel lengths. The chamber forms part of the "combustion" chamber of the barrel, you are getting the benefit of the empty cartridge case in contributing to the length of the barrel.

I'll concede that there's a delta between how revolver barrels are measured vs semi-auto's, but the chamber area is definitely part of the volume where powder burning occurs.

Your doubts leak a lot of water. I haven't used them, but the G35 finding was done by Fatdog earlier in this topic. The other 3 specs are from Mike Mcnett's site www.doubletapammo.com . Feel free to go there and dispute him, but most find his numbers are on the conservitive side. Spcwes was getting 1550 from his G31, slightly better than the advertised numbers. The one I said "estimating" on, I was estimating, just for fun. Now that one was a guess of numbers, with avergaes.

3.5" (G33) barrel - 1415fps / 556 ft. lbs
4.0" (G32) barrel - 1450fps / 584 ft. lbs
4.5" (G31) barrel - 1525fps / 645 ft. lbs
5.32" (G35) - 1594fps / 705 ft. lbs

No flames intended Tang419, I was just asking if the velocities were out of the guns themselves since I thought I read barrel length, not actual gun. IŽll never doubt your word or spcwes data or Mike Mcnetts, if you guys say so I believe it. I was just trying to learn more since I do not have access to his fabulous ammo being overseas.

Hello fellas,

I have an easy to use formula which will calculate the energy at any point for which you have a velocity. It works for every case when you know the bullet wt and velocity.

Example: 230 gr at 950 fps.(your basic +P .45ACP)

divide the mass (grains) and the velocity by 100

this gives us 2.3 and 9.5

So mass x velocity x velocity x constant = lb-ft energy

From the above: 2.3 x 9.5 x 9.5 x 2.22 = 461 (rounded off)

This works for every single bullet you can think of.
Remember 7000 grains = 1 pound and you can even calculate artillery and such.Don't worry about the constant. Just know it works!

Good day mates,
vhyper

Just found this thread, hey fellow Sig lovers

The only thing ever shot out of my G33 has been Speer GDHP's. I found a great deal at a gunshow and grabbed a bunch of it.

Now even with this standard round, my Angry Cricket is snappy...what's everyone think about the DT stuff in terms of recoil? The muzzle velo out of a 3.5 barrel is downright impressive and I'm going to get some to try, but I'll have to admit...

I'm skerred! :worried: :scared:

I am new to this part of Glock talk. Just switched my G27 to a G33 and was amazed at the power and accuracy of the .357 out of this weapon. Now a confirmed .357sig carrier.

The order I just received was Winchester Brass. Wish he had the Nickle.

Finally got some time to test the 147Gr Double Tap 357SIG. This stuff looks good, Gold Dot bullet and new Winchester brass. The bullet has a very heavy taper crimp.

First test Glock 31 (4.5" bbl)
10 rds
AV speed 1171 fps
SD = 9.21
for comparison I have 125gr Gold Dot from Georgia Arms
(just to make sure my chrony was reading normal... it was)
10 rds
AV speed 1437 fps
SD = 8.30

Second test Sig P239 (3.6" bbl)
10 rds
AV speed 1089 fps
SD 8.06
GA stuff for comp.
10 rds
AV speed 1335 fps
SD = 10.14

1) The DT 147Gr is the softest shooting 357SIG I have ever shot!
2) In my P239 it tore the center out of a 3" bull @ 25 yds, off the bench.
3) Yes it was slower than rated speed but I still like it!

I've tried it and its like shooting other heavy for caliber rds. Low recoil, not as loud, PROBABLY more penetration. It's not why I would choose 357sig but it's a good load. Maybe for woods carry though DT has a 147FMJ now.

Yes. Late this past summer I ripped off a full 13-round mag from my G-32 as fast as I could the minute I hit the range. I wanted to duplicate conditions from a cold gun like would be the case in a real emergency. I perform this test for every carry round

All the rounds fired without any problems; can't say that my aim was much to write home about but all I was trying to do was shoot as fast as possible. I think .357sig is the perfect caliber for the 147-grain round. I imagine that if the subsonic 147-grain in 9mm does what its proponents claim the same weight/JHP design must be Superman at 1200-1300 fps.

Not to take away from the Double tap but the 3918 Speers are the lesser penetration rounds, the 4234 is the standard power round which should run 50 fps faster.

I had the chance to chrono DT .357 in two guns today. One was a Glock 35 with a factory length Jarvis .357Sig barrel, the other was a Sig P239 so that is probably a good representation of the fastest and slowest handgun performance in the caliber. As a benchmark for today’s results I also fired and measured some regular off the shelf Speer brand 125gr gold dots.

anyone ever try the 147 DT load ?

I ordered DoubleTap in 125 gr FMJ, 125 gr Bonded Jacketed Hollow Point, 147 gr FMJ, and 147 gr Bonded Jacketed Hollow Point, and although I haven't been able to properly test them yet I did accidentally shoot off 15 rounds of the 147 gr FMJ because I mistook them for 125 gr WWB. I imagine they probably punched a few holes in their backstop. Those things pass through some metal plate like a hot knife through butter.

I have shot hot FMJ's at that indoor range before and the next time I went in they were checking with shooters to see what kind of rounds would be being used. I think my G35 with it's 6 inch barrel might have been responsible for damaging their backstop, but I didn't end up asking why they were asking...now I'm curious though.

I've gotten some FMJ's up to 1,500/ 1,600 fps in my gun before. Some of those were hot handloads using Hornady's rounded ogive .355 (9mm) 125 gr bullets. Those things were designed by the German military to punch through armour, so I'm guessing that it's possible I penetrated the backstop. Hmmmmm what do you think, possible?

let me know how those hst's feel, especially if you can do a water jug or wet phone book test. seems like bonded is the best way to go in .357sig but federal claims the hst's won't get jacket seperation or fragmentation in a non bonded bullet. i have yet to see it in the tests performed on the other caliber hst's.

yes 23918 is limited penetration. its about 50 fps slower and has slightly lower muzzle energy. ammotogo has 54234 in boxes of 50 for $30, and 23918 in boxes of 20 for $22. i hope speer has not discontinued 54234 because its no longer on their website, and that's my carry round of choice right now.

Speer had the best velocities followed by buffalo bore. I'm curious to what the veolicities for Federal HST and Ranger T series run at. I would assume they are below double tap, but not positive. i'm still curious as to whether the hst's are experiencing jacket seperation and fragmentation at the .357 SIG velocities. that is their claim to fame along with consistent expansion and it should make for a pretty potent load if it lives up to its hype in the other calibers.

Are you saying that HSTs have areputation for fragmentation and jacket separation? Thats how I read it. I have some coming, and I'll have to test that for you by shooting some covered water jugs or if im feeling rich maybe Ill shoot some gel. Are you saying that HSTs have areputation for fragmentation and jacket separation? Thats how I read it. I have some coming, and I'll have to test that for you by shooting some covered water jugs or if im feeling rich maybe Ill shoot some gel. If someone has beaten me to it let me know and save me some time.

no exactly the opposite. HST's reputation is one of 100% weight retention and lack of jacket separation even through hard barriers. i'm curious to see if they maintain those characteristics at the high velocities of 357 SIG rounds. i haven't been able to find any ballistics testing or results of the HSTs in this caliber. i wish i had enough property to do the tests myself, but unfortunately don't.

i made an attempt to organize this kind of testing by another GT member who does awesome videos and consistent tests and asked for contributions of various 357 SIG loads. there haven't been many members who have displayed any interest in donating their SD rounds for the testing though. if you are interested let me know.

Thats good, I hadn't heard of those problems with these rounds. I was also think that at this velocity the "petals" may peel back too far becoming more or less the same diameter that they started.

Hopfully I will be able to test GD, DT, Ranger T and HST soon and come up with a definitive conclusion.

If you notice on the GDs the hollowpoint is very shallow, probly to avoid over expansion I havn't recieve any of the others to compare yet (in commute), but I assume they are deeper cavities.

those are the 4 rounds i really wanted to see results on. if you could perform the tests that would be awesome. videos and pictures of each test would be even better.

i don't have any hst in 357 yet but those and rangers tend to have deeper hp cavities than the GD in other calibers. DT is supposed to be using GD bullets in their rounds so those two should be the same.

Hey all,

does anyone know the difference between factory Speer Gold Dot and Double Tap Gold Dot as far as velocity f.p.s and ft. lbs. energy, if any??? thanks in advance:)

Bruce, the best thing about the .357 Sig is that not so dependent on bullet design to create expansion...., that said, I carry Buffalo Bore 125's and use Powerball for HD...

i see people here compare speer, hst and ranger with double tap. is dt ammo trusted as much as the large companies? i have asked about this before on another topic and most people said no, but here i have read many saying they had switch from speer to dt. dt velocities are impressive but wouldn't that be much harder on a glock or not?

dt has suffered a serious reputation drop. for the most part dt has started using the montana gold bullet instead of the gold dot. of course you know montana gold is not on par with the gold dot. this is not the only problem however. the main problem when you talk about dt being trusted is that they are not always informing their customers that they are changing their bullets. the customer is left to figure this out once they receive their product. not good business. until such practices are changed i can't recommend trusting them. imho of course.

The leftover Rangers and all of the Gold Dots are now sitting in the safe. If anyone is interested, LG had the Ranger T's for $30 per 50 round box.

the 700 #ers was from a G35 though.

Caliber : .357 Sig
Bullet : 125gr. Gold Dot JHP

3.5" (G33) barrel - 1415fps / 556 ft. lbs
4.0" (G32) barrel - 1450fps / 584 ft. lbs
4.5" (G31) barrel - 1525fps / 645 ft. lbs
5.32" (G35) - 1594fps / 705 ft. lbs

Estimating here, it seems they gain on average of 40-50fps per 1/2" of barrel added.
6.02" (G24) - 1644fps / 750 ft. lbs

So....... it I get an uzi sub gun and a 10 inch 357 barrel, could I reasonably expect about 1844fps? What kind of energy does that equate to?

No huge deal if you look at the comparable Cor-Bon 125 with the same bullet.

I guess if you want the Gold Dot, you should really be buying the Speer brand
these days, or at least I would.

My thinking is that even though the Gold Dot has proven to be a great performer
in most calibers, and especially in .357 SIG.

There are newer bullets these days that perform even better.

These would be the Hornady FTX and the Barnes TAC-XP or X bullet as loaded
by many companies.

I wonder of the Tac-XP from Black Hills will be offered in .357 SIG soon?

I pm's Mas today asking him this question. What's the difference between the factory load. Speer Gold Dot 125 personal defense and 125 LE Duty ammo?

Thank for having this threat and I look forwards to getting some answers. FYI I opted for the Glock 32 over the Sig P239

The difference is a slight velocity increase from the 53918 item and the 54234 item, as well as a slight diferent six vs. five petal bullet design in the 53918. The lower velocity 1350 fps 53918 was developed for a government agency which I think is the FAM, and is also marketed in 20 round boxes for the civilian market.

Not sure however how this all makes a difference in the real world, both hit very hard and expand reliably because of the shallow hollow point design. If I were to pick a reliable expanding bullet, it would be one of those two.

76.) Remington Disintegrator - 104g plated frangible

I found this at a LGS when I was picking up a new handgun ( not chambered in 357sig ) Didn't even know it was available....
Also I put in an order for this (http://www.venturamunitions.com/357-sig-124-gr-copper-bonded-fp-hunting-shack-ammunition-50-rounds/) - another company I had never heard of. Apparently they are down the road from Bitterroot Valley Ammunition in Montana.

An update on some other orders:

Got my order re-funded from Grizzly Cartridge Company - I guess they won't be making the Xtreme ammo again in 357sig anytime soon :crying:
Haven't heard a peep from Load-X.... I guess that order will never be filled:crying:

Another load coming! This one I stumbled upon and it was a surprise to me. I never knew Precision Ammunition made this. I also thought that they went out of business. I remembered that Ruag RWS makes copper matrix ammo ( but they seem to be zero balance a lot). I did a little research and found out that RWS actually bought out Precision Ammunition - an article (http://www.apbweb.com/corporate-spotlight-products-menu-40/1548-ruag-establishes-a-new-us-ammunition-company.html) So this is new old stock stuff! - a rare one...

Yeh - the whole thing was shocking and sad. Amazing the damage one man(Sandusky) can inflict - and an hierarchy that thinks they are too big to fail. Also sad that the only one in the chain cleared of wrong-doing was hung out to dry because he was the Face of PSU.

RMD - you're welcome! I guess I could have gone the easy route and just listed stuff I've seen on the web. But, I have on many occasions seen things listed, and then put in an order only to be told that it is zero balance...back-ordered etc. Then later I am re-funded and the item never appears for sale again. **82.) Remington Gold Sabre - 125g - BJHP

If we are talking the 180 gr. Hardcast from DT.
http://www.doubletapammo.com/php/catalog/images/IMG_3760.JPG
It will be the next load from Mike on my list.

I've read where a Trooper killed a Black Bear with his issued .357 Glock 31.
SPEER 125 gr. Gold Dot no doubt.

So this new DT load would be the one to take into the pine needles for the .357 SIG

you can add speer gold dot LP (53918), the normal LE load is (54234).

Re-visited this thread and realized there is another load to get. What confused me was that my box said 23918. After some research, I found that 23918 is the same load as 53918 with the 2 at the beginning designating a 20 round box and the 5 designating a 50 round box ( notice the rest of the numbers are the same) Big DUH! for me for being soo thick. Anyway, what I need and what I ordered was the LE load 54234. I will change the list on page one to reflect (lumping 23918 and 53918 together). Also ordered the Lawman cleanfire ammo which is explained on the ammunitiontogo site like this:
Lawman Clean-Fire is loaded like regular Lawman except for the primer and bullet. The ignition power comes from our patented Clean-Fire primer that contains no lead, barium, or antimony. The lead core is completely and seamlessly encased in jacket material so powder gases can't burn lead off the bullet base.

This will bring the list up to 108....

I just noticed something on the Underwood Ammo website. Their original 357 sig load was listed as a 124 gr hollow point load. This is the one I bought several hundred rounds of back when they only sold on Gunbroker. It went for about $16 per 50 and I considered it more of a practice load even though it was a hollow point. I just shot the last box yesterday though my M&Pc. Then they came out with their 125g Gold Dot Hollow Point load which they now list as 125 Grain Bonded Jacketed Hollow Point (about $28) per box.
Now they list the Gold Dot load and a 125 Grain Bonded Full Metal Jacket load. How long has this been out? I need to order some!!

Ok.... I dug into my stash and found I still had two boxes of the old hollow point loads. Don't know what the bullet is - it is a wide, deep hollow point and smooth - no creases separating petals (if it looks like that, it's a trick of the lighting). Notice the old style label on the box before they went to the (what I call Underdog) U

May or may not have three more loads coming. Exhibit A: Hunting Shack Ammo lists two loadings -
a 124g - PFP (plated flat point) (RL) and
a 125g Speer UHP (Uni-Core Hollow Point)

I have the 124g Flat Point load and have been looking for the UHP load. Well I found a site that had a 125g TMJ listed...huh? The picture shows The 125g Speer UHP
see for yourself:
http://store.iqmetals.com/ccispeer357sig125grgolddothollowpoint-53918new-1-1.aspx

The link even has it listed a 357sig125grgolddothollowpoint if you look in the address bar when you go to the page. They only had one box left so I took a chance and ordered it. Hope it is the Speer load - the list will go to 122!

Exhibit B: I ordered two loadings from Custom Cartridge, Inc. -
a Barnes 125 XPB load and
a Frangible SoftShot 90 FP

http://www.customcartridge.com/order/list.php?gval

However, years ago I ordered from them...called them after about six weeks and was told they hadn't run a batch yet...and then never heard from them again. Soo, we will see! If all goes in a stellar fashion, I will have the list up to 124!!

Left a message though IQMetals contact and they actually called me today. They wanted to clear up the confusion so I explained to them as above. They didn't realize the picture was wrong so took it down from the site. However they did say that this was not the 124g plated flat point OR the hollow points but 125gr TMJ (speer?) They were very nice to deal with! I had them ship it to me!

It never ends!

Well...dagnabit....truer words may never have been spoken!! Perusing the great ammo store that is the internet, I have come up with a few more loads:
Grizzly Cartridge Company loadings in 147g JHP, 124g FMJ-FP and 125g JHP ( I have a previous incarnation - 124g JHP)
all as seen here (http://www.grizzlycartridge.com/store/index.php?app=ecom&ns=catshow&ref=357sig).
And...they are on the way! The list continues to climb.
Just got an e-mail from Good To Go Ammo. They are backlogged three to four weeks :crying: Funny though...their site says it is In Stock:dunno:

Well here is an update:
1.) Got another call from IQmetal - they couldn't find this (mythical?) box of Hunting Shack 125g TMJ - so they sent me a 50 round box of CCI Speer - GDHP's. So, nothing to add to the list but I got a good deal on a box of Speer GD's! Thanks to IQmetal for good customer service.
2.) No word from Good to Go Ammo on the Barnes TAC-XP.
3.) No word from Custom Cartridge on the two loads I ordered from them.
4.) Grizzly Cartridge site says they have shipped my order but no tracking number.

So we shall see. I may be chasing "vaporware" at this point....

List on page 1 updated to read:

54.) Grizzly Cartridge Company - 124g - FMJ-FP
55.) Grizzly Cartridge Company - 147g - JHP

The 125g JHP load was actually the same 124g load that I already own - it is apparently a misprint on the website.
Here is a (poor) photo of the family:

The list is now at 122! We will see what happens with the others.....

Well, A LOT has happened since my last post on this thread :faint: -- BUT, in the midst of it all, I have another load on the way!!
It is a 125g - JHP load From Dead Zero Ammunition as seen here http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=326167862

and/or here http://www.deadzeroammo.com/

I spoke with the gentleman on the phone - he is a super nice guy and of course is Swamped like soo many these days. He shoots this round himself - After converting a Beretta 96, he never went back to .40
I will add it to the list, of course....when I get my hot little hands on it. It will be #124!!!!

http://www.venturamunitions.com/categories/handgun/357-sig-ammo-for-sale.html

This will be load #125!!!

No word from Custom Cartridge (from Nov 30th, 2012 order) - this is my second big ol' strike-out with them.

Thank You sir! Not a big poster - as you can see, it took me 12 years to get here! Never thought the list would be such an on-going project. When I bought my first pistol chambered in 357 Sig in 1999, there were only about 8 loads (that I knew of). Of course, most said the 357 Sig would never last, but I will probably be adding to the list next year when we celebrate the 20th year of the 357 Sig!!
At this point though, I only know of about two -possibly- three more out there!

well...there are many of us who really appreciate the effort!

I recently traded my nephew my SiG Pro SP2340 in 357 SiG along with a perfect P225 for his P226 SCT in .40 S&W...of course, I immediately replaced the barrel with a new P226 in 357 SiG...I need to get more trigger time on it...

Well, since my last post, I have come across some interesting leads! One is a "new old stock " situation with a loading that is not made any more - one is a "exotic" round - and another is a custom ammo place that I have just never stumbled upon before. ( DANG!!) Because of all the current craziness, who knows when OR IF I will be able to lay my hands on these. Anyway, there are maybe now five to six loads to pursue!!

NitLion
03-07-2013, 14:55
Another load on the way! This one from the "custom ammo place" I mentioned above. It is a 125g FMJ load from Precision One Ammo - a group down in South Carolina. Their Web-site is here:

http://www.precisiononeammunition.com/index.php?main_page=down_for_maintenance

but is is down temporarily due to the current craziness!!
This will probably get here before the Load-X order.
The "new old stock" item mentioned above is probably gonna be outta my reach - it is on auction and getting a little rich for my blood...

List on page 1 updated to read:

91.) Precision One Ammunition - 125g - FMJ

And that brings the list to 125!!

http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/7694/precisionone.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/855/precisionone.jpg/)

A couple of bummer things to report.
1.) I was NOT able to get the "new old stock" stuff. It was Firefrangible ammunition from Precision Ammunition as seen here:
http://www.officer.com/product/10045751/-firefrangible-plated-lead-free-frangible-ammunition
2.) I found out that Atlanta Arms and Ammo no longer loads the 357Sig - BUMMER, as I really liked their stuff! Anyway, they got the dreaded **. I also removed their link and replaced them with Dead Zero Ammunition.
3.) When I buy ammo, the first box always goes thru my P229. Then I save the empty box and the rest is up for grabs for my other 357sig pistols. Well, somewhere along the line I mistook a box of CCI Speer Lawman Cleanfire for a regular box of Lawman - shot it up and threw the box away! And in these crazy days, it is hard to replace.
Well, Load-X is on its way to me now so expect another update soon!!

Another load on the way...this one is Remington Disintegrator 100 grain Sintered Frangible Round. I have the other Disintegrator round from Remington which is the 104 grain Plated round.
I will add it to the list when it comes in.
Missed out on a COP (Copper Only Projectile) loading. I am just like a fisherman - the ones that get away bother me:sadangel:

clarkz71,

Thanks for the lead... I will have to order a box and get it on the list. That stack of eight boxes looks great!! :number1:

I have a couple more loads coming to add to the list: The first is a Magsafe 45g SWAT load as seen here: http://magsafeonline.com/prices_specs.php

45 grains going at 2550 fps?!! :zipmouth: This will be the lightest load on the list now..... surpassing RBCD's 60g loading. (The other end of the spectrum in the 180g DoubleTap load.)

The other load on the way is the new Ventura Tactical load as seen here: http://www.venturamunitions.com/ventura-tactical-357-sig-125gr-tc-250-rounds/

I did miss out on another load.... I hesitated (again) and lost(again) - it was another exotic load.... similar to this (but in 357sig of course):
http://clarkcustomcartridge.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=13&zenid=a6280385a4d19550793219cd0564c9c4

I will update the list as items arrive!
