View Full Version : Any K100RS owners out there?
I have a co-worker selling his 1985 K100RS.
It's been 3 years since I sold my Blackbird and I'm itching to get back on 2 wheels.
Any thoughts or concerns with these old beemers?
Only complaint I've seen so far is that they are top heavy and tippin at slow speeds.
I am an avid K100RS (1991) owner and driver. They are fantastic machines. Dependable, fast, great handling and superior Sport touring machines in the true sense of -travel- with-gear-sport style. Chrome lined cylinders are fully broken in at 20K miles and many report hundreds of thousands of miles without major engine work!. Best news, if you don't need the lastest and greatest you may buy one for the price of an expensive bicycle.
I rode a 1985 K100RT for 62,000 miles and never had a problem. The RT is the same machine with a touring faring.
If the shifting gets hard you may need to lube the clutch splines but other than that normal maintence is usually all that is needed.
I've had two other K bikes since, a 97 K1100LT and now a 00 K1200LT. They are hard to beat.
One of the best things about BMW is parts availibility. Any dealer will have anything you need for that almost 20 year old bike in stock or can have it the next day. Try to find a part for a 20 year old asian bike.
