I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Surefire X200. As it is not cheap (though quality products generally aren't), I wanted to get an idea of what I was getting into before I threw down $250. Thanks very much.

First, look around a little before you buy one. You can usually find new ones between 160-180 and used ones around 140-150. It is a great little light. I have one for my pistols and also have one mounted on an AR-15.

Thanks, Wes. I'll see what I can find. Definitely don't mind paying $90 less.

That is a great deal on an x200.

I purchased the (purple) X200 in August and played a little bit with it. The light is kinda bluish and really didn't provide very good contrast or fog penetration. The light is focused onto a tight diamond (which was annoyingly tilted), which really makes it difficult to see a wide area quickly.
I exchanged it for an M3X which has a much brighter and whiter light--it really throws a nice beam out. I can identify squirrels out to 120 feet easily in my backyard. I want as much retina searing power as possible in a compact package.

I know they say the LED bulb life is the big selling point on the x200 but I think that 'advantage' is over rated. Your weapon mounted flashlight will generally see only momentary use so your batteries last a long time, as will the bulbs. It's not a frisk down or utility light that sees daily, heavy use. In that job an LED light is often a better choice. Therefore the Streamlight M series lights are better: more effective light (not bluish, I agree w/ GrndFtherGlck), just as tough, and more affordable. SureFire makes good stuff to be sure but to be competitive they need to lower the x200's price by $80-$120 I say to get in into the ballpark of popularity.
