Hey all,
I was just wondering, I LOOOOVVVVVEEEE my G32. have always shot it with double ear protection, muffs and plugs. Has anyone ever fired a 357 sig, GOD FORBID, WITHOUT ear protection?? One thing I just really thought about was what if I had to use my G32 indoors for self-defense? I probably wouldnt have time to fetch my muffs or plugs. What is your opinion, would the adrenaline rush shut down your hearing to where you would not be deaf the rest of your life if you had to shoot it without ear protection????????

I have shot both a G31-C and a G33 outdoors and its not much worse than a 9mm or .45acp...Ever shot a high powered rifle while hunting?

I've shot my 33 without protection quite a few times and it's definitely loud, but not deafly so. Its not really close to a high powered rifle round especially out of a shorter barrel. My hearing has been tested at far above average too. At least in one ear :) The other is still above the norm too. I think the body actually does go into special mode under a serious situation like you are stating. It would most likely take extensive conditions to cause harm.

I have shot my G32 outdoors a few times without hearing protection. No big deal. Didn`t seem louder than any other gun.

If I understand your post, you are asking about shooting your 357 sig indoors...Well, depending on the way your house is set up, as to whether you are shooting in a large room or a hallway, Yes you will notice an increase in noise...Outdoors you will notice very little, comparing the two...
Shooting indoors and out was explained to me a long time ago, by going to a pond and throwing a rock in it...watching the ripples go out unempended, it looses velocity and disapates...I hope this makes sense to you...Throw a firecracker in your bathroom, while you are in it and you will get a louder sound as opposed to throwing a firecracker outdoors...The sound waves dissipate in a 360....
I keep the G17 for home/indoors, and the G33 for when I'm out and about...

 If you need it in a hurry, for self defence, you won't have time to think about it anyway. Just try not to be indoors! Tee! Hee!;z
granted its not the same caliber, but my dad had to do this with a 40cal, G23.
he was indoors fired 7 rds. He doesn't remember the sound or the recoil. Neither does anyone else that was in the office for that matter. Your body will sense what is coming and turn off certain "things" on your body. Most commonly its your hearing, and eyesight. Your body kinda turns off your ears, and your eyes become very tunnel-visioned.

Unfortunately, I had occasion to rapidly discharge several 125gr .357 mag JHPs in a kitchen once. That was many moons ago, and my right ear is still ringing. I didn't notice anything while the event was taking place, but I have lived with the effects since.

Yes. The psychological effects and physical effects resulting from the percussion are two seperate things. Your cognition of the event as it occurs, however diminished, does not dissipate the intense shock wave that can damage the delicate components of the ear.
DEAF
DEAD
Just one letter can make a big difference in one's condition....
IMHO, better DEAF than DEAD.....
