Burris Zee scope ring failure (pic)

I had a Burris Zee scope ring failure on my Russian SKS. I was having accuracy problems with this otherwise decently accurate rifle. I suspected it was a scope issue. As I was preparing to swap scopes, I noticed one of the screws was gone. ;P

One of the screws was severed. The bottom half was stuck in the threads, and the top half was missing. The other 3 screws came out without too much effort. Well, that's probably why my accuracy was down the drain! I'd only shot about 100-200 rounds with this setup.

Burris has a "Forever Warranty" so I'll send them back tomorrow first thing. Kinda sucks though. I wonder how long it will take to get a new set in the mail during the holiday rush? :(

Anybody ever have something like this happen before?

I had a similar episode with my Remington Police .308. And I was told I tightened the screws too much. That's why we decided to invest in a set of torque ranch.

It appeared to be a similar situation here. From what I can see, there is a lot of silver bit at the bottom of the counter sunk and what's all that grease?

But still, send them back and get a new set.

It was not broken when I installed it. I guess it's possible that I cranked it down too tight and it snapped while shooting, but it was not broken before shooting.

Sent it back today.

When you have too much torsion on a screw, the top will not be uniformly flat like that. You will have 75% of the top look like that, and 25% that is raised, and looking more like a pull type breakage than a clean sheer. Indeed, if I had to guess, I would say that break is from a poor casting, poor metal alloy screw. I don't think it is your fault.
