I have an adware the runs inbetween each website I visit. 'ads234.com....' was the first one, I managed to get rid of that somehow, now i get 'ads345.com....' inbetween each click. Sometimes it disapears very quickly, sometimes not.
I just got a trial version of Spyware doctor which seems good, but can't get rid of 'ads345.com....'. It doesn't even recognize it.
My Norton antivirus/spyware 2005 is great for viruses, but is worthless on spyware.
Please help.
Thank you,
Merry Christmas.
John.

Download Spybot Search and Destroy (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html) . That'll get rid of any spyware lurking on your system. Read the dialog boxes as you go along so you don't delete something you really need. It's pretty self-explanatory to use, though.;c

Try these

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

http://www.download.com/3000-8022-10122137.html

Run Spy bot first then ad aware.

There is a way to get rid of that without them but I don't remember how.

Also use Mozilla Firefox as your browser and your spyware needs will drop dramatically.

:) Hi HAMMERHEAD.Another forum member introduced me to SPYWARE NUKER.It found 35 creeps on my system.I knew I had 4,I'd been trying to get rid of.Nuker cleaned them up and has provided the ability for me to see just how easily the creeps attach themselves while you're surfing. Try it,you'll like it...^3 ^3^3 ^3

An Advantage to Spybot S&D is the immunization feature that will prevent reinfection of known spyware. I also use Spyware blaster to prevent activeX attacks Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sbdownload.html)

All these programs will get rid of SOME spyware on your machine, then give you a false sense of security when the scan comes up blank.

The only way to get rid of all spyware is to re-format and install windows again.

Better yet......... run Linux

New convert-Linux Mandrake 10.1

I work in IT, and I can tell you I have spent an entire day or more on one system removing spyware/adware/malware. It is getting worse as the coders get better. In addition to manually removing spyware, I use all of the following to get maximum results. Yes, sometimes I have to run all 4 programs before all the spyware is gone.

-Spybot search and destroy 1.3 (make sure you go online and update the definitions before using)
-Ad-aware
-Webroot spysweeper
-Computer Associates Pest Patrol

There are others out there, but I find these to be the best.

Also, after updating any definitions, reboot your system into safe mode and run your scans. Your system is running less processes, and the programs will catch more problems.

Best practice with spyware prevention is to NEVER click on any pop-ups, and If you run XP, install Service Pack 2. You can also disable certain features in Internet Explorer so that spyware will not self install, IE ActiveX etc. Set your security settings higher.

Better yet, move to another browser that is safer.... Firefox

Good luck!

I had to clean a machine, this machine, of spyware and trojans. What a pain. The worst was LOP, which from what I understand is IMPOSSIBLE to uninstall with tools. I tried a half-dozen applications, several of them would remove LOP, but then a few hours later it would be reinfected again.

I like spybot, avg antivirus, hijackthis as free applications. As for the LOP trojan, after spending 3 days cleaning and then having it show up again, the only thing which finally worked was to run their own uninstaller. Can you believe that!?! To remove LOP, I waited until the machine infected itself again (when it shows up on ad-aware etc), I then run IE which caused their trojan to download the toolbar. At that point, I ran the LOP uninstaller and it finally removed it. I first tried it with only the trojan part active and the uninstaller didn't work.

Here is a link to the LOP trojan toolbar uninstaller; lop.com/toolbar_uninstall.exe <-- how do companies like this not get raided by the feds?

I did not mention hijackthis because it can be very dangerous in unexperianced hands... use with caution.

Agreed. I had a bunch of 'missing file' messages at startup after all the spyware removal, and hijackthis was convenient to remove the references from the registry. You could really bork up the machine though if you remove too much.

I haven't tried Pest Patrol but for me AdAware,Spybot,SpySweeper,A-Squared and Yahoo Toolbar and anti spyware have been best.
