which virus checker? computer security

Which one, symantec or McAfee, for virus checking / firewall? Understand computers enough to know to turn it on and use it, but want to learn more about computer security and the best way to protect my computer form virus/"phishing", etc. Have had my identity used to open accounts before and was not a good experience. Any and all info you can tell me or direct me too would be helpful, thanks.

Zone Alarm and Norton Antivirus have never let me down.

On my new laptop it came, rather I purchased, Norton 2005. It comes with spyware detection as well as virus scanner.

My choice as well... Great software and price can't be beat!
