What are the thoughts on this gun? I just ordered one, sight unseen, for $300 used. I figured that if I don't like it, I can sell if for more than I paid.

I would have been all over the 300 dollar P228 deal. You cannot go wrong, as I feel Sigs are the best pistols made. Period. BrokenArrow 12-31-2004, 09:52 Excellent gun. Issued/approved by most of the feds at one time or another; FBI, DEA, BATF, Secret Service, etc. Some have "upgraded" to the P229, others have gone Glock. Used by the US military as the M11. Used by many German state Police agencies, other European countries, and the Israelis. Accurate and reliable. Not as durable/corrosion resistant as the P229, but good enough for most folks. Max durability if ya replace the roll pins in the slide every 5K rounds. Ya don't have to, but if ya don't it will accelerate wear on the frame too. P228s shooting the 115 +P+ ammo can go at 15K rounds if ya don't, get over 30K if you do for example (P229s can make it to 50K or more w/o changing the heavier solid slide pin). That's according to someone at SIGARMS, so argue w them, not me. ;) The older P226s are made the same way. Some PDs got over 50K w std ammo from them, and others (Baltimore County PD) broke 52 of their slides/frames... some of that may be due to the weaker frame rails on some P226s made in mid 80s, some to slide pins... the P228 never had the scalloped frame rails that caused problems in those P226s. The P226s the US military tested in the mid 80s broke frames under 7K rounds w mil-spec ammo for example (anohter reason Beretta got that contract; they didn't break. During the testing anyway). Same guns some claimed the SEALs got over 90K rounds through... things that make ya go hmmmm? I do know some folks who have not changed out the roll pins, and they are at 25K w std ammo and doing fine so far. Know someone else who did not and he cracked the slide and frame on his P228 by 30K... so the guy at SIGARMs might know what he was talking about? ;b vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2010, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
