I would like to get a 50BMG. But I can’t think of a really good reason to buy one.

Do you hunt with it?
Do you target shoot with it?
Are you a collector?
Is this you plinking rifle?

Do you have it just to piss off the anti-gun people? Seams like a valid reason, but...$,$$$ :-)

I whacked an armadillo that walked right in front of my 600 yard gong once. Does this count ?

No.

You wouldnt know if you hit them since you lose the image in the scope when firing the rifle.
Maybe...just maybe... you could tell with the squirrels if you could see the red splotch on the splintered tree where they used to be....

Just having a .50 BMG is cool. Shooting it is awesome. Mine is used as a paper puncher.

I can't imagine going through life without a .50 BMG. It means that much to me. It will be the last firearm that I sell, if I'm forced to sell some. :)

I use mine to piss off gun grabbing leftists like Paul Koretz since I live in California. They need to know that more people own them now than ever before.

I was thinking of sending Koretz and Schwarzennegar a copy of my receipts.

I also actually enjoy them at the range when I get the chance. I have an outing planned in a couple of weeks. Collecting various targets now. :)

Guns used:
Savage rifles chambered in .223 and .22-250 and a New England Firearms Sportster in .17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire. The guys that did the video visit some of the hunting sites out there like Predator Masters. I don't recall them mentioning the big 50.

Target shoot, collect, get before banned, because I can, I have one you don't, etc. Basically all of the above except have not hunted with it.

I posted this in the 50CAL forum a few weeks ago:

Was out shooting with some friends, they had their 308s, and we were shooting some steel propane-type tanks at 600 yards or so. You could clearly hear the PINGS! when the 308s hit steel. I was blasting away with my AR-50, and you heard nothing, and could see the rounds hitting the berm behind the target. They thought I was missing, and were offering advice (high, low, 1 mil, etc) I just laughed and told them I was dead-on and the rounds were going right through the tanks, so there was little noise. They laughed at me. During cease fire we go down to take a look, and there are a bunch of 1/2 inch holes in a respectably tight pattern right in the middle of the steel, both sides. I was so smug....

I normally shoot my rem PSS in .308 out to 800 to 1000 yards, but realistically, its pretty well used up at 800. At 950, i cant even see dust from the bullet impacts on the rimrock wall I have for a backstop above my target board. Even with a spotter and binocs or spotting scope, the 308 is just hard to see.

when I shoot my 50 though, no binocs are necessary, the dust cloud is about 2ft and the smack from the impact can be heard nicely, although it only nocks a small chip out of the wall.

When I was making a decision on what to build for a really long range paper puncher, (1500 to 2000 yards) I looked at all kinds of long range rounds both factory and wildcat. The 50 only stays supersonic until around 2300 to 2500 yards, so that is the end of good groups. beyond that the bullet is travelling subsonic, but will continue quite a ways. Anything I was going to build was a minimum of 2grand for a serious accuracy rifle. then the cost of ammo per shot. It was real easy to get into 2-3 dollars per shot for wildcat stuff like a 416-338 or even factory stuff like the 7mmSTW or how about the 7.82 Warbird or anything else by Lazaroni. When all was said and done, they still are pretty well tapped at 1500-1800 yards, so what if I wanted to try to stretch it farther, build yet another gun? I started researching the 50bmg, rifles were 2-3k for most stuff that offered reasonable accuracy, I wanted to compete after becoming competent. The rifles kicked a hell of a lot less than most of the wildcats and ammo was cheaper for plinker grade and comparibly priced or cheaper for match grade and the best part was that I was not limited to 2k yards for stretching it out. My new goal is 3500 yards, but currently I have only shot it to 2100 yards. Of course groups at range aren't great yet and they will get worse at further distances, but 55 gallon barrels full of water are a blast to knock holes in. I may have to set 4 (2 on top of 2)up to try 3500 yards, but damn its fun trying. At 2100 yards, i could consistently hit a 5ft rock and with blue tips, it is easy to see if you hit them, tracers are a blast because they burn out to about 2500 yards, where is tracers out of my 308 are all used up by 800. Those are a few factors that pushed me towards the 50.

I use mine for paper punching and for busting ground hogs. I can normally get hogs out to 1200 to 1400 yards if I dope the wind right but its fun even when you miss em cause they just stand up to see what kicked up the dust they don't even here the noise....lol and then you have another (bigger) target..

in reference to your little quote at the bottom of your screen about a carry BMG, be careful what you ask for. If someone begins producing a 50 handgun, then it would make all of our fun ammo illegal to have. AP in a handgun is a no no. That is the only reason we still have all of our fun stuff. Its like opening a toybox for me when I open a can of various colored bullets.

I get the most fun shooting it when it clears off the all the guns and stuff next to me when I tell everone I lighting off a 50 and ignore me. Then they are pissed while they are picking thier **** up from the ground.
