So today I took my supervisor out to the range. He owns a S&W Sigma ;g in 9mm. He was ALL over the paper at 25' and 15' with some hits in the A-zones, but the majority outside the rings. After witnessing his frustration with the Sigma and his apparent lack of ability to hit anything, I brought him a Sig P229 in .40 and told him to have at. He achieved 10 A-zone hits on the first magazine. Apparently, the goofy Sigma trigger is causing him issues. I moved him to my P220 after the P229, and he did even better. As we left, he was asking where he could purchase a P220!;f

I always thought I was a piss poor shot with handguns, then I got a Sig was astonished. Having a good trigger does help a lot. I guess sometimes it isn't the operator. :)

Every time I let a person shoot my Sig 220 they are amazed at how accurate they are with it. It is the only handgun that I can not shoot for a long time, pick it up and shoot it like I have been using it every day. Love it!!!

That SIGMA trigger is total crap. It's long, it's heavy and it's inconsistent. I was trying to teach basic marksmanship to some kid at the range who had picked up a SIGMA cheap. It's really hard to teach the fine points of trigger pull on something like that.

Frankly had the kid bought the HK pistol with the LEM trigger or the SIG with the DAK trigger, I seriously doubt that it would be any improvement. Those silly triggers are for lawyer-conscious police departments than for safe shooting.

My new-issued P220R is scary accurate even at speed. I love it! Rumor is I can buy it for $300 when I retire.;f

Here is a story for you. I have been working as an LEO for 11 years. When I started, I carried my P220 in my bullet proof vest as a backup to my issue 4006 SW. After two years we then could carry what we wanted to buy (for the most part). I carried the P220 on my side from that point on. I was the only one on the department carrying a Sig. Through the years guys would come up and ask to shoot my P220. As stated in this thread people are suprised at how accurate they are with it. Slowly more and more guys started buying Sigs. The department which issues Glock 40s and the SW 40s started buying a few LDA's. Problems have immediately surfaced and those that control such things are now talking with Sig about taking our Glocks and the remaining Smiths for Sigs. Should be intersting to see how it turns out. Money they thought would be an issue (thinking that SIGs were more expensive). However the LDA's we have so far (about 10) cost $750 per gun. That will buy a lot of SIG.

Seems to be a trend. Alot of federal agencies are going Sig instead of Glock. Apparently Glocks are not doing as well in testing for reliability and there is concern about the safety of the trigger. At least thats what the tests showed. Don't shoot the messenger btw. I still carry my G17 even though my favorite pistol is my P220.

I'd like to hear the details of those tests. The Ohio Highway Patrol went with the P226 .40 after very tough testing.
