Watch this Sunday night 60 minutes. they are doing a story on .50 cal rifles. You know it's going to be so slanted to make it sound like it's a terroist weapon.:(
Thanks for the information. I'll watch it even though I probably shouldn't! ;Q

TED Back before the AWB gun dealers were selling the SKS rifles as fast as they could get them. Dealers were also selling "parts guns" that were thrown together with spare parts. Some of those parts guns would empty a entire mag after you pulled the trigger only once. 60 minutes or 20/20 don't remember which tried to make it look like all the SKS rifles were defective and unsafe. I've got one with matching serial numbers and a milled receiver. Its plenty safe and shoots just fine. ;c
Here in Kalifornia, they gave owners of legally aquired SKS's a "grace period" in which to register them. Of course the DOJ did the unthinkable...they went down the list and confiscated all of the registered weapons, even though they weren't configured in a fashion according to the AWB standards. Ah, the age old question...should I register my legally aquired AW (I did a few years back) AND register my new BMG? Tough decision, but I'll wait until early 2006 to decide. Sorry for the rant. :soap:

The Governator gave this argument its biggest boost, of course. Thanks for providing cover for the enemy, you big roided up doofus!
Here's the CBS News web verison of the story, if you missed the show:

This is complete B.S. I don't live in Kali but I sympathize for all who do and want to own or currently do own one of these rifles. I want to purchase one someday but since I am a college student I don't see it in my immediate future. Sometimes I think that I should get a loan and go out and purchase all of the rilfes that I want right now just so that when all of the ludacris laws start flying no matter if they go into effect or not I have my collection complete. The terror that they speak of is targeted at everyone who is a gun enthusiast. I am terrorfied that someday it will be illegal for me to pursue my hobbies.

Never fails, people saw this here in Kali and NOW they want a .50! Sorry, to bad so sad your to LATE! What the hell were you waiting for?! Why did you vote for Arnie or any of the other gun grabbers? I'm betting they were one of the ones that said "why do you NEED that". Oh, they're banning them, I better buy one.;Q

No I have always wanted one since the moment I first shot one.
Sorry if I sound like an ass or something. Plus I am in Indiana and I am a little shy with my tuition payments to go out and buy one. Sorry.

That's okay, I was referring to people here in Kali. I was reading another post on another board by someone in Kali asking if it's to late to get a .50. He had just watched the 60 min. episode, if he had paid attention he would've heard them say it was banned Jan. 1st.

Yeah, it's too late.;) Good thing the CA DOJ will allow you to register your "completed before 1/1/05" 80% "CA-Legal(FAB-10 specs or no mag well) AR lower receiver during the registration window. You only have to specify make and model(homemade) and give your custom lower a serial number. But, the bandwagon gun buyer probably doesn't know that.;f
I want to build this with my soon to be registered ".50 BMG CA-legal AR lower".:)

This is rediculous. Timothy McVeighy killed more innocent civilians with fertilizer and diesel gas than the .50 Barrett ever has. Lets ban fertilizer! I hope Indiana doesn't get wrapped up in this crap. I cannot even afford one or have anywhere to shoot one, but it is just the principal of it. When bad people do bad things it is always the inanimate object they used to do it's fault not the peorson's.
Here's a link to a vid of the 60 minutes piece (o-crap).

It almost infuriating that it is so one-sided, but the Ronnie Barrett interview keeps me from blowing my top. He makes so much sense. I know there is way more to his interview than they showed. I'm sure it was edited out to help the anti-gun slant (after all it IS CBS and when has the truth mattered to them?). All they do is focus on the negatives on the possible use of the gun. Nowhere do they mention 9-11 was pulled off with only knives! Again CBS doesn't let things like facts get in the way of thier news reporting.
Also, they do mention the fact that Barrett sells his guns to 35 militaries around the world. It has never occured them that a terrorist could just buy one on the black market from said countries and skip the whole ID process of a retail exchange.
I could keep shooting holes in thier argument, but I will run out of room.:steamed:

Usual misleading press story.
-It is not the most powerful weapon you can buy, you can get a tax stamp in many states (class 3) and purchase a Lahti or other 20mm rifle (more powerful than the .50 BMG).
-They (Media) never mentioned the price of the rifles or ammunition. This is hy the average shooting enthusiast doesn't have one! I can't afford one myself! If I were to buy a Barret M82 I would pay over $550 in sales tax alone.
-They make it sound as if Ronnie B. designed and invented not just the rifle, but the cartridge....not so.
-They don't show the long range matches, which is what the .50 is primarily used for. Just some yahoos blasting away, making us all look like crazies. I still wonder why any shooting enthusiast would allow themselves to be taped blasting away. I have never seen or known any .50 shooter to blast away like that.
-They spoke to a Police Agency that is against the .50 and to Tom Diaz from VPC. They didn't contact any of the competitive .50 clubs, just Ronnie B.
-As for the internet witness of an illegal round being purchased. They said a number of sites sell the round, and named none. As for the witness, how can you witness someone else purchasing something on-line. What site was it? How do we know what they are saying is credible....right, Dan Rather.
-The final portion of the report mentions records. What they mention about recent policy shift is correct, however, it is misleading. They don't mention that every firearm purchase must have the FFL complete a 4473 form and background check. The FFL must keep the the 4473 purchase form on file for (I believe) 35 years, may be it's 25. Either way that's a loooooong time!!!!! If the FFL resigns his/her FFL status before the required time, such records must be sent to the BATFE!
The press has not given us all the info, either due to poor reporting and information gathering or a deliberate slant of behalf of the media. I keep this in mind when I hear any special report. How do we know they are not deleting or missing info we should know. It's depressing, we should be able to trust the media to give us all the info. :(
Yeah I think this story was co-written by Micheal Moore (hell, it wouldn't surprise me). About the Raoufus pruchase thing. How did they know they actaully bought real raoufus rounds? Did they recieve them and test them. I can paint any old .50bmg with silver and green spray paint on the tip and say "want to buy raoufus rounds?". And if it was real, why did they not arrest the person buying them and the company selling them, since they BOTH broke they law (a VERY strict law too, I might add). Illegal purchase of high-explosive devices I'm sure brings a VERY stiff penalty.
Again it's CBS. Why should ANYONE beleive what they say now. They should be forever grouped with the "Weekly World News" and other check-out line garbage.
"This week on 60-minutes. President Bush gets war plans from aliens...... and the worlds fattest man explodes from being too fat. *tick, tick, tick*"

The .50 BMG. The ideal terrorist weapon. Lightweight, inexpensive, easily concealable, capable of accepting cheap hi-cap mags, light recoiling, silent, easily capable of tracking and shooting down airliners @ 25,000 feet or obliterating electrical or chemical plants from ten miles away, can take out Hoover dam or sink an aircraft carrier with a single round, will defeat any armored and/or tracked vehicle or weapons platform known, and capable of delivering any combination of NBC weapons payloads.
Did I leave anything out? ;g
Lightweight, inexpensive, easily concealable,
Very true. You should see my IWB holster for this. ;) ;f
