A ran multiple searches and couldn't find anything on this, but what are the pros a cons of getting night sites on a 27? I'm getting one within a few days and have heard different takes. What do you guys think? If I missed a good thread on the searches I made, please give me a link.
I think the 27 is quite the "up close and personel" gun, but this is gonna be my primary carry weapon and if i'm convinced, I'll throw in another 70-80 dollars, cuz this is gonna be a keeper.
Thanx, Joe

I have trijicon night sights on my 27 and I think it was money well spent. Can aquire the front sight much faster, even in daylight.
I put Meprolite night sites on my G27 mainly because they are steel. I've heard about the stock polymer sites being easliy damaged.

I have Meprolites on mine, ameriglo is nice too.
Two questions to ask yourself...
1. Might I need to use this tool after dark?
2. Do I want to be able to use my sights if I do?
I put night sights on all my pistols, including my 27.

So far, you guys are pointing me in my original direction. My Sarge was clowning on a freind of ours who put a Lasermax in a 27, saying it was rediculous because of the up close and personel thing and said the same about Night sites.
Anybody else have any comments?
As far as laser sights, I agree. Night sights are an entirely different thing. Shooting at 3' you probably won't use them, at 15 - 20' you probably will wish you could figure out where your barrel is pointed.

I've done a lot of upgrades to my G27. But the one I was most happy with was the Meprolights. Hands down, a must have upgrade.
I would go for the XS 24/7 Express night sights. There have been some great reviews on the forum here.I know that having the factory night sights makes them a lot easier to see in low light conditions so I would definitely get them installed.
I have trijicon night sights on my 27 best money you could spend on an accessory!!
Got Meps on my G27..search for Desert Scorpions thread..Meps are $65 a set from Rob....Im not gonna say they are a nessecity.but they sure are nice to have in low light..and work well with a light.
Id say get em...

Get a good set of notch & post Heinie's & a Surefire 120 Lumen flashlight. Night sights are overated. If it is too dark to see the threat, your night sights are worthless & then you would be foolish to shoot. If it is light enough to see the threat, then you don't need NS. Deadly confrontations usually take place within 10 to 15 feet. When the s**t hits the fan, I guarantee you won't be thinking about, or trying to line up your front sight on the threat. Your focus will be on that threat. You will be 'point shooting.' This method requires some practice. It is more muscle memory than anything. In any competition shooting, whether it is IPSC or IDPA, on any target at 30 feet or less, experienced shooters point shoot. Try it. Just put a target at 10 feet. Draw & fire 1 shot as soon as the gun comes on target. You can also start at 'low ready.' Just focus on the spot on the target you will hit.
After you have put 30 shots in the 'A' zone, move the target to 15 feet, then 20, & finally 30 feet. Beyond 30 feet you may have to use the front sight. I have competed on many night stages, most outdoors, some indoors. Usually I use a Surefire 120 Lumen flashlight which is a great defensive tool. It will blind the threat. Even though these are practice drills, the adrenalin flows. Most targets are 5 to 30 feet away. After doing these drills for the last 15 years, my experience, & those of hundreds of fellow shooters is that muscle memory (practice)is king. We clear a house of threats as fast & accurately as we can. We find that our focus is on the target, not the sights in a simulated threat situation. If you are in a 'real' situation, do you honestly think you will have the time to or the focus to line up your sights on a moving, threatening target?

You must be attending different IDPA matches than I am.

I know it's not a G27, but my G26 night sights are still going strong after 8 years. In fact, I checked them in the dark next to a friends NEW Ameriglo sights.
My antique Trijicons were noticably brighter!!!
Shady: You hit the nail on the head:

Get them, you won't be sorry.

I've only worked with one set of Ameriglos, bought by someone who didn't buy the Trijicons I suggested. We had to file and work on both front & rear to get them to fit. Never had that problem with the T brand, and haven't heard of it with the M brand either.
Sights are a one time purchase that may save your life, don't be "too" cheap.
FYI - You can ship your gun to Glock and they'll install night sights and ship it back for $67 last time I did it. Whole process took less than a week.

Get a good set of notch & post Heinie's & a Surefire 120 Lumen flashlight. Night sights are "overated". "If" it is too dark to see the threat, your night sights are "worthless" & then you would be foolish to shoot. If it is light enough to see the threat, then you don't need NS. Deadly confrontations usually take place within 10 to 15 feet. When the s**t hits the fan, I guarantee you won't be thinking about, or trying to line up your front sight on the threat. I'll try to limit this response to three of the words used above.
Overrated: Good steel night sights will still give a good clear sight picture in daylight or artificial light plus have the added advantage of a reference point in low/no light situations. As economical as they're getting to be I find it hard to justify not getting them if I'm going to be changing sights in the first place and I surely don't look at them as a disadvantage.
If: If you're alone, or if you just had your opponent in the glare of your trusty 120 lumen combat light and it goes out, or if you cannot illuminate your opponent because you'll give your position away (mutiple opponents that are after you, not cardboard targets), or any other "if" that could insert itself into your situation.
Worthless: Same points as "overrated" and "if".
I don't have night sights on all of my firearms but I sure don't mind them being on the ones that have them.
Please keep in mind that this is just my personal opinion and not the only one out there.
Use what works for you and practice with it.
Keith
P.S. If you ever get bored, just do a search on point shooting, that'll burn up a few hours.
P.S.S. Do some reading on real life shootouts and you'll see more than a few victors mention seeing/using the front sight.
I have the factory Mepros. I have one of the first/early M27s and they are still going strong after....what....something 10 years. Well worth it. IMO.

have the mepros on my 27 and 23
I had poo-poo'd night sites till just the other day.
My wife left her G19 at home so I cleaned it for her and left it laying on my night stand when I went to bed.
I rolled over and could see the night sites plain as day.
So I went from thinking about acquiring a target at close range to not having to fumble around in the dark looking for my gun.
So I'm going to put them on my G27.
Just picked up a NIB G27 today and had the low profile Mep's installed. ;f
