View Full Version : Full power G.A.P.
Any predictions as to what we can expect with the G.A.P. in the future? I'm sure the current loads have not yet fully utilized the G.A.P. case. Most current loads seem to be around 21,000 psi. I'm curious as to what ballistic increase we can expect to see in the future.
Will the GAP case perform at 23,000 psi as well as the ACP +P(23,000psi)?
As of now I am practicing with Lawman 185gr, and loading gold dots in the same grain weight for self defense.
I think we will have to wait for the specialty reloading companies to do this, such as Corbon, Double Tap and the like. Until the LE community enters the picture the big name ammo manufactures like to have a wide safety margin.
Just my .02 worth
I have read that the GAP has been tested at pressures as high as 35,000 psi with no danger. This would suggest it is capable of significant ballistics for the reloader. Not that I would reccomend such high pressures to any reloaders....
Can't wait too see it's full potential,???although its going to be difficult for some to take,;c ;c

MPG1737, thanks for your post. I'm thinking about a similar pairing of 185 gr defense and practice ammunition--specifically, Federal Hydra and Speer Lawman.
I've already compared it to the 200 gr. Lawman and did not notice much difference other than I had better accuracy with the 200--possibly because I had been getting more time in with the 200 gr. I plan to shoot more 185 Lawman soon and then make a bulk purchase depending upon how it feels and if I achieve better results on the target.
However, I read conflicting comments about the perceived recoil on the 185 round. Some say it is snappy and most others say it has less P-recoil than the hotter 200 gr.
What's your experience with the 185 Lawman? thanks.
I find the recoil of both the 185gr Lawman, and the 200gr to be very similar. Both are very tame in my experience. I expect to see a Speer produced 230gr Gold Dot, and Lawman soon. With Winchesters current GAP line coming into it's own, it is inevitable. If, and when this happens I will probably switch to the 230gr.
I had federal 185 wwb 230 and speer 200 all in one magazine to see if I could tell a difference. All of them seemed pretty much the same to me.
I found the Lawman to also be a bit "snappy" but didn't realize it til you said it. I incorporated them into my range ammo at last session. I generally practice with Winchester 230 grn. FMJ and they are a great round. I love the feel of them. I have 200 grn. Gold-Dots for the house and I have shot with those at the range too just to get a feel for them and test them in the weapon. I've been getting the Winchesters at gun shows for $12.75/box (tax included) and right now that's the cheapest I can find GAP ammo in my area until I have the cash to order like 1000 rounds of it from Midway or cheaperthandirt.

Yeah, it is. Most gun shops around here price GAP ammo for around $15-$17 before taxes. I don't know much about reloading so right now factory is the only option for me.
