I'm trying to decided between getting the Mil-spec or the GI. What are the major differences between them other than price.
Mil-spec has the lowered and flared ejection port and the "hi-viz" sights. If it were me, I would get the Mil-spec...not that you asked my opinion!!
Well I bought a GI as a learning gun to tinker with. The first thing I did was decide to change the sights. It was a b***h! I would also like to have a lowered port. Well I've learned alright, those are two things I could have let Springfield do on a Mil-Spec, and spent the rest of my time changing out the trigger, putting on a magwell, installing a beavertail, etc.
The Mil-Spec gets you better sights, a beveled magwell, and lowered ejection port, for not much more money. If I were to do it all over again, I'd get the Mil-Spec rather than the GI.

if you're going to do all that, you can spend the same amount for a mil-spec on a para and get all that stuff on the gun already.
Well as I said it was purchased as a project gun. I wanted to work on it, to learn a little. However, the amount of work required to switch the sights (that staked on fron sight is a pain), and lower the port is way to great in comparison to what you learn doing it. However, changing out internals, fitting new safeties, etc, allows you to learn about how the gun works. If I wasn't willing to do any of the work I would have just purchased a Loaded, Kimber, etc, etc.
