I've heard from many that the only real difference between the .40 and the .357 is the stamping on the slide. However, I'm trying to find out if one conversion (.40 to .357) is any better or worse than the other (.357 to .40). Maybe it doesn't matter at all. I'm interested in shooting both calibers. I've been set on getting a g22 and a g31 barrel for it. I just want to make sure that there are no reasons to go the other way around (buying a g31 and a g22 barrel). Thanks.

None that I can think of, I just did the conversion. I have a G32 I just converted with a 40 barrel from www.glockparts.com. $100 and great service to boot.. The 40/357 glock is the same gun except for the barrel...\
The only gray area is the magazines, some have no problems using 40 ammo in the 357 and vice/versa and others have feeding problems. I spent a few extra bucks and got 40 mags and have not a problem. It also helps keep track of your ammo..:)
