I'm at a loss here. I just want to crop a midi song I have, but after downloading and screwing around with 3 different programs I can't get it done.

I have a midi that is 2 minutes long. All I want to do is cut off the first 30 seconds, without ruining the rest of the song.

Does anyone have any idea what app I can use, or if you have one and its a quick job, can you just do it for me?

my son uses a freebie digital editing program called GoldWave that will help you do that.

Thanks, I already have goldwave and use it frquently. However, goldwave is a digital audio editor (mp3, wav, etc). Midis aren't audio files in that respect, and so can't be edited like them.

More info. (http://www.goldwave.com/faq.php#midiformat)

What I need, and haven't been able to find, is a free midi editor that will simply allow me to crop the song without effecting the meter or tone info.

You need a midi sequencer program to alter a midi file. it will allow you to change the data in the file, including eliminating the blank stuff at the start.

Where did you find those? I spent a good hour on google and came up with nothing. Of course, the odds of finding anything useful when one of your search terms is 'free' aren't very high.

Thanks.

I had better luck searching for "midi sequencer" than "midi editor".

i've never found anything better than audacity (recommended here by someone a long time ago).

it's free on sourceforge and available for windows and linux.

it's simple, fast, and really good.

Audacity is an excellent program.I'm not sure it will allow you to alter a midi file http://majorgeeks.com/download4427.html
