View Full Version : Series 1 Kimber Classic Price check
I'm about to buy a Series I Kimber Classic Custom for $450. The pistol is in very good condition with no holster wear at all (only nice thing about buying in IL, no CCW means just about all used guns were never carried) This particular pistol has standard fixed sights and a blue finish. My question is, is this a good deal?
Good price. I think my brother paid $499 for his.
Thanks for the response Rob. One more quick question, which parts in the pre-series II Kimbers are MIM?

mag catch, slide stop, beavertail, thunb safety, and I believe sear and disconnector.

Not to mention the hammer and plunger tube. If it was pre-1999, then the bushing may also be MIM.
If it were in Calif, then the price would be a steal. Since they can't be sold from out of state into Calif, the Pre-Series II base Kimbers sell for $550-$700.
Isn't the extracor and sights MIM as well?

No, the ejector is MIM but Kimber has NEVER used MIM extractors, only Colt has tried those. I don't know who made Kimber's fixed sights originally but the adjustables were made by LPA (I believe they were cast.)
If you buy it be sure you dont get arrested for stealing, that is a great price. I have been looking for a custom royal series 1 but will expect to pay alot more than that for it.

Thanks Kruzr. I don't know too much about Kimbers. My only experience comes from the ones I have shot.
BUY IT!!!!
I have 3 full size 1911's and a Commander, and while I like all of them, my Clackamas (sp?) marked, Classic Custom in basic black is my most accurate and smooth pistol. Great trigger out of the box. Don't replace a damn MIM thing in it. Just shoot the hell out of it until the recoil spring goes limp, replace and continue.
Thanks for all the replies gents, I really do appreciate it. I'm definitely going to buy it. I have had the 1911 bug gnawing at me for some time now, and this deal seems to good to pass up. I don't really intend to replace anything until it breaks, if it breaks. However, I have been looking at some various tweaks. I love to tinker, so this Kimber looks promising as a platform to learn on in the future when finances permit. I've been reading a lot here in the 1911 Club and over at 1911forum and the possibilities the platform affords are pretty exciting. The plan in the meantime though, is to shoot the heck out of it:) I've got plenty of components (thanks Mikep!!) and an SDB ready to go for that.
Again, thanks for all the input, and please keep it coming.
Stay safe!
I paid $499 for mine brand new.
T'was a turd.
Series I Kimber Classics are just that - Classics. Buy it!!! I've still got one NIB and you couldn't touch it for that.

I would consider changing out the slide spring every 5000 rounds... but other than that just shoot it... you are getting a great pistol at a great price...

If you paid $499 for a new Kimber, you must have bought it out of the back of a van from guys selling VCR's in the Wal-Mart parking lot. ;f
Well, I picked up the Kimber today. The deal turned out even better too. In addition to the pistol itself, I also got an arched mainspring housing, a variety of grips, the original case, snapcaps, and the Kuhnhausen shop manual all for $450.
I put 250 rds through it with no problems on the pistols's part. I did have one stovepipe early on, but that was because I wasn't quite familiar with the 1911 grip and was trying a few things, so I chalked that up to limpwristing. Also, the slide wouldn't lock back on the last round with the cheapo Kimber mag. I picked up a 47D and she worked flawlessly from there, even getting me a few compliments on the groups it was putting out.
Thanks for the advice guys! ;c

I'd buy it and I already have three series I's.
BTW, my custom has around 30K through it with no MIM issues.
Good luck, Max:) ;c
