Guys, first off i appreciate any and all information. i am interested in getting a semi-custom 1911. i am interested in a Baer, Brown, Wilson, or an SA Professional. i cant make a decision because i have no experience with either a Brown or a Professional. i was wondering for those who have had or shot each what was your choice. i only plan on buying one, i am not a collector i am shooter and the gun will be used for carry, target shooting, possibly some IDPA and fun steel plate matches. i have owned 2 Wilsons(CQB & 1996A2) and 2 Baers (Super-Tac & TRS. i really loved the Super-Tac, it felt best in the hand and i shot it incredibly well. i was stupid and couldnt refuse the offer at a match when some offered me a boat load for it. anyhow, i know they are all great weapons and are differences in each. i was concerned mainly with Brown of the higher beavertail, making it feel awakward in the hand. and i kind of just dont know about the SA Professional, sounds interesting but....... anyways thanks again for any info and/or suggestions.;?

P.S. i really dont want to start a flame war on whats better than what i just would like personal preferences and why? i have searhced this topic for a week on about 4 to 5 different forums and posted it hear because i thought i would get the most honest and least biast opinion. thanks again

The Pro's I've shot remind me of my Baers. The only exception is the coarse and sharp front strap checkering and they don't seem to be cut as high under the trigger guard. On the Pro the checkering is 20 LPI (like the old timers say it should be ;) ) I have a Brown Kobra Carry and have shot 2 others. I've never seen or shot a Gov't size Brown. The Brown is made with a different philosophy. Brown's aren't tight like Baers or even the Pro. They remind me of a Wilson but the finish is a bit nicer. The Brown's pay a lot of attention to the final finish and it shows. My Kobra Carry shoots as well as my TRS's if I do my part. The affect of the shorter sight radius is apparent in my shooting at 25 yards. At 10 yards there isn't much difference.....they all shoot one hole.

Why not another Bear if you liked the previous one. Bear are said to be tight, accurate and reliable. If I had the money and wanted one that I could compete with... It would be the Bear.

For the price you cannot beat a baer.

There are a bunch of great semicustom out htere. Ed brown , les baer, wilson combat, rock river, Out of all of them brown has the best finish, they really pay attention to the looks. Wilson makes a nice pistol but get alot of conflicting reviews since a couple years ago. Rock river seems to be a good company with a good firearm. But if you want a shooter, the baer will shoot better than all of them. If you want a pretty one get the brown. Just my opinion.

Guys, thanks for all the responses. i ordered a Baer Premier II with adjustable night sights. it should be here this afternoon, cant wait. i went and saw my old Baer Super-Tac at a fellow shooters house and it sealed the deal for me. the Baers just fit my hand perfectly. thanks again

I think you will be very happy with the baer... please share some pictures and your feelings after you shoot it. I choose an Ed Brown over the Baer and Wilson.... but I think any of the three would have been good pistols... They are all very high quality pistols... with some differences between them... My Brown and I am getting along just fine... ;)

Why do you feel that the baer will shoot better ???? I am curious... I have shot many 1911's including springfield Pro's Ed Brown Executive Carry / wilson CQB's... .etc and find my ed brown to be the best that I have found... What do you think that Baer does better than all the rest ??? and what shooting or pistols do you base this on ???
