I bought one right after Christmas. It was discounted deeply so I won't complain much.

Compared to my Kimbers slide fit the SA 1911-A1 is as loose as a goose's rear.

I'll keep it but mine doesn't shoot nearly as well as what you are describing.

When these first came out, I noticed they weren't as tight as the latest ones. Who knows, maybe they decided to improve the quality. A friend of mine has one, and it is just like mine. They gun shop guy commented on how nice the recent ones have been.

The proof will be in the shootin'.

The gun is not supposed to be tight. Its built with looser tolerences, to be more reliable in combat.

Exactly! And it is a GI model after all. By the way, for future reference Springfield makes a Mil-Spec and a GI model, not a GI Mil-spec as is stated in the title of this thread. Don't mean to be a stickler but it is confusing to some who may not be familiar with their line. Obiviously the gun purchased was a GI model, the Mil-spec has slightly better sights, slanted rear cocking serations and a wider ejection port and costs more. I'm looking for a GI model myself come next gun show!

Great shooting gun. Only problem is sights. It takes my ole eyes some time to find them. No firing, ejection, or extraction problems. Today the Trigger pull measured 4 1/2 lbs at the shop where I bought it. This is after 500 rounds.

You should enjoy it for quite some time and, best of all, you can leave it as it is or make whatever changes you want.

Great purchase.

"FOR FUTURE REFERENCE":

That must be why is says "45 GI Mil Spec" on the end of the box, right next to the serial number and model number. :)

Sorry to have to break it to you, but them's the facts, Jack.

das028,

Its not a Military Issued pistol, its sort of a reproduction, that looks like a WW2 gun. If they made them "loose" nobody would buy them. I know guys who have fired thousands of rounds through theirs without a single malfunction. While not in ACTUAL COMBAT SITUATIONS, that sounds pretty reliable to me.

OK, the rest of the knowitalls can chime in now........

;Q Sorry to be a "know it all" I hope I didnt come off as one and if I did I am sorry.

I was unaware the box said that, however go peruse the website and you'll see the 1911 models, there is a "Mil-Spec" and a "GI .45"
There are two distinct models, and them's the facts too.

Yep. There is a Mil Spec and a GI Mil Spec. No need to apologize, I was being sarcastic........let's blame SA for such confusing names!

Its not sort of a reproduction it is a reproduction of a military issued sidearm. it may not be issued today, but it once was.

And those that were issued were loose as many vets can testify.
I've just got to wonder what made Springfield want to put those "US" (ugly in my opinion) grips on it?! I don't believe those ever existed before.

I like those ugly (US) grips:) even though they were never issued. As far as I know, an internal locking system (ILS) was never issued either...:)

It is NOT a true reproduction. The hammer is different. the Thumb safety is different. The grips are different.

I see no reason why it should be made "loose".

;Q Ok, and there were no MIM parts back then either and there are a few other things that arent EXACT as a WWII issued 1911-a1....I was just pointing out a big obvious difference and was wondering why they did that since it would be real easy to just to put plain wood grips on. ILS on the other hand is their lawyers doing most likely. Hey, but at least you can remove it and the grips! I'll send ya my ugly "US" grips when I replace them after I buy mine ;)

I have the 1st gen GI.No U.S. on my grips.
Great gun for the money and groups well even out to 25 yards. Can easily hit a man size target at 50 to 75 yards. How much more accurate do you need to be?

I love mine... great gun. Been 100% reliable since I got it. Wish I could say the same thing for my Kimber TLE RL... that needed massaging to get to be as reliable, and still isn't.

Anyhow... great gun, good combat accuracy (not sure if it is the gun or the GI sights, but I am only good out to about 25 yards...), fun to shoot and looks classic!! I am probably going to shoot it in IDPA as soon as I get some Wilson 8 round magazines for it... currently only have 10 round magazines for 1911s (Limited 10 in USPSA)...

Edited to say: I like the cheesey US grips!

Yeah, thanks alot! I've got it bad now and gotta get one. Local dealer wanted $550 to order one in, none in stock. $550! Dang a thief. Next place I went to said they could get one in for $469 but they said all the SA 1911's were very hard to get and on backorder. North Florida here, any truth to that and what was the availability in your area?

rdnzl

They are everywhere here in WA, and the highest I've seen is $430.

Don't submit to price gouging!

There is a parked GI mil spec for $425 and I think he has several (he ordered 5, I think) Stainless for $475 in this part of VA.

I found this nice holster for sale on another forum.

It is made by Horseshoe Leather, in England. It is the Covert model.

The fit is excellent, and the design is a cross between a pancake and a "wrap-around". It stays open after drawing the weapon. It holds the pistol tight to the body, and makes it easy to carry concealed under a light jacket.

It has a protective "flap" on the inside that makes my pistol not dig into my side.

It allow a perfect combat grip, and very fast presentation of the weapon.

Made to order by Andy Aratoonian, Horseshoe Leather holsters are top notch quality. You pay a little more than average for shipping, but it's not too bad. I was fortunate to spot this one for sale on THIS continent :)

If ya got the 1911 itch....scratch it!
I've got both the blue and stainless. Love both of 'em, except my stainless ejects the rounds a bit short. About 5 out of ten land on my head.
