View Full Version : Back to a SIG for a duty pistol.
I recently acquired a .40 SIG 229R with the DAK trigger, and as expected, it performed flawlessly during the break-in, and is now my duty pistol while in uniform. I had been using a Glock 22 for a couple of years, and 1911 pistols for several years before that. I had not carried a SIG since 1993, when I switched to a sixgun from a SIG 220 because the European-style mag release would sometimes snag on the fabric of the seat in the patrol car, partially releasing the mag. Until 1997 I could carry a wide range of privately purchased duty handguns from .38/9mm up to .45; now we must choose from a list of four in .40 S&W unless we jump though the hoops to carry a "grandfathered" weapon from the pre-97 era. For me, the DAK trigger finally prompted me to switch back to a SIG; I was pleased to find I can shoot it better than the G22.
Good pick. I use a 226R-DAK in .357SIG on duty and love it.

I'm issued a P220R that I HAVE to carry. Oh well, we all have our burdens to bear.;+
You're very lucky to be able to choose your own duty weapon! (or at least have a couple options)
Yes, indeed, it is nice to be able to choose, even if only among four approved weapons, and I can still carry almost anything as "off-duty" or back-up.
I was stuck with a 10-year-old Beretta 96 and had to occasionally fill in the sights with white out. I later found out model paint would have worked better. :)

Our Local Police Department just purchased 226 - 40's for all uniform staff. They wanted the rail but did not get. I have spoken to 3 officers and after spending a little time on the range getting used to the change ( they were carrying S & W 9's ) all three LOVE the Sig. Its good to know that we are being protected by a great group of people who will risk their life for us every day and its really good to know they now carry the best hand gun in the world to protect themselves. I am heading to the local gun shop in the morning to buy my 8th Sig - This one is going to be a 226 - 40. Just will have to decide when I get there if I get the rail and / or stainless steel.
LOVE MY SIGS

I think the P229 is the best off-the-shelf .40/.357 money can buy. You are lucky that your department actually issues one to you...it's a fantastic handgun in every respect.
I recently got a P229R in .40 with the DAK trigger. After a couple hundred rounds to get used to it, I love it. I shoot it better than the G23 I sold to get the Sig, and I like the DAK trigger better, too. I currently carry it as my duty weapon, and it is very comforting.

How do YOU describe the DAK trigger? I carry a Glock 22 on duty with light and a Glock 23 off duty. I want to buy a P-229R DAK but have to wait for it to be available in Cali. I am also contemplating switching over to the 229/.40/DAK.
Does anyone know when they will be available in Southern Cal.?
The DAK trigger pulls sort of like a Para LDA trigger. I put the factory short trigger on mine and my groups tightened up nicely. It's a very smooth pull, although relatively light at about 6.5#. It does take a little to get used to, but once you do, I think you will like it. It's a subjective thing, though...some people hate the DAK, some of us swear by it too.

Thanks toocool, I just received mine and havn't fired it yet. The trigger is the standard style. The dryfire pull on the brand new pistel was heavier than I thought it would be. Much more than the LDA that I owned. Will it loosen up with a thousand rnds?
Well, one thing I did was put the short trigger on it right away. As soon as I did that, my groups tightened up quite a bit. but yes, it does get smoother the more you shoot it.
