Although I am a novice in the FTP world, this one: http://www.smartftp.com/ , works well for me and is pretty easy to use.

Filezilla!

Backing up your settings is bloody easy as well - just save the XML file.

you have one: dos ftp
start -> run -> cmd
c:\>ftp
edited to add: the easiest thing to use is IE. type ftp://address.com in the address bar and you have a gui ftp client.

It's been a while but with Windows XP I've used LeapFTP http://www.leapware.com/ and http://leapware.com/leapftp.html
Thanks, I'll give each of these a look.
David_G17 - I know you can download files using IE, but I am not aware of a way to upload files using IE. I need a way to upload files to my web host.

LeapFTP and WS_FTP are the 2 of the most popular.

David_G17, That is cool, I had no idea Windows had this built in (Doh!). Works fine and you don't have to search for shareware.

LeechFTP
Internet explorer works, usually. It locks up pretty easy though. It will also add a shortcut to that FTP in your Network Places folder.

if you connect with something like ftp://glocktalk.com you can just drag and drop (upload or download) in IE.
eta: you have to log in as the correct user, otherwise it will log you in as annonymous and give that accounts permissions.
