When I start up my computer, it gives me a black screen with this:

Windows could not start because of an error in the software
Please report this problem as:
load needed DLLs for kernel.
Please contact your support person to report this problem.

I put the Windows disc in, set it to boot from CD, and it did the same thing.

The computer has never had a problem, I regularly scan it for viruses, spyware, etc. What happened, why, and how can I fix it??

Thanks for your help.

At this point your system is hosed. You have to do an in-place install (reinstall XP overtop of your current installation). Your documents and such will still be there, but you may lose your Windows settings.

I have a guy thats going to help me do that. I'm not sure how to do it without wiping everything off the hard drive, and I don't want to do that.

Do you have any idea what caused this?
