Ok, Rock island 1911's good or bad, I have my eye on one at the local shop I have the money for it and a few extra mags and I already have reloading tools for it, My dads the one to convince on this particular venture, so any argument pointers would help. PLEASE. but yeah, how do Rock islands size up, this is just a NIB with one 8 rnd mag, its a fixed sight which is what i love so it all works out

Havent heard anything bad about the Rock Island 1911. You might look at the Springfields, in the parked or stainless, Mil-Spec or the GI WWII model. WWII GI model is about $389.00 and the Mil Spec is about $475.00, Dont know what the RI 1911's sell for. Sights are poor on the GI, but a great shooter.

Easy as doing a search. You should find what you are looking for.

The Rock island I'm looking at is $349 NIB box, 8rnd mag and warranty out the door
RIA slides are cast as well as the frame. A well cast frame like Caspian is just fie with me but the Slide needs to be machined from barstock. If you don't plan on shooting 10000 rounds through it your probably fine. If you do think you will be shooting it a lot and may customize it in to a competition gun the go with a Springfield mil spec.
Their are a lot of people who are very happy with their RIA, SAM & Charles Daily 1911, all are produced by the same company in the Philippines. Their are a lot of good customer reviews on the 1911 forums but for $75.00 more you can get a Springfield that down the road will serve you better if you do have the gun customized and your resale will be much higher if you want to sell it.
since you ask...do not get it...Springfield is the way to go with your budget in mind
Sounds like both WonderWolf and GunnDogg should try doing a search.
For the record, it's RIA, not RRA as those are US made. RIA's, Charles Daley's and Armscor's are all made in the Phillipines and imported by Armscor. SAM's aren't the same pistol.
Yes they are cast, but I haven't heard of anyone having problems with premature wear on their RIA's. I love mine, paid $309 out the door.

They seem to be good pistols.
If I get another 1911 style and I want one cheap, I'll pick up a RIA in 38 super.

so a Rock island .45acp $349 out the door isnt bad, I will be putting alot of ammo through it but it will be taken care of, trust me, I have a AR-15 that has had 10,000 rounds through it and it still looks like new, I take good care of my toys

The gun is excellent for the price. The quality control on these pistols keep on improving everyday. Go RIA!!!

In it's basic form it's a great pistol! Mine runs/shoots each time I pull the trigger and ejects reliably. Far better made than my Charles Daly pistols which are good guns also but needs allot of shooting to break it in. For the money I'd buy another. Just check the extractor tension and change the magazines unless they give you a Novak which is what I received.

I wasn't too impressed with the two I handled, but I've never shot one, so who knows?
