Hello there,

After much thought I've decided to place acquiring a .50BMG rifle at the top of my "list". I need some guidance on where to begin. I would be satisfied with a bolt action, reliable, highly accurate rifle. My budget for the rifle alone is around $3K. but I'd love to get something cheaper and spend the remaining money on ammo. My optics budget is $1K but I'll worry about that after I get the rifle.

I think we're dealing with the next Solothurns here so I'm not waiting 'till it's too late.

Are you looking at a specific .50? Barrett, Armalite, Serbu...?

As far as the scopes go, Leupold, Nightforce, IOR...

Here's a good site to look at, http://www.hevanet.com/temple/

I'm actually leaning towards this Upper (http://www.50bmg.net/001.html)

The ALS is probably the best upper to get if you want to compete, it won the Hunter Class two years ago at the FCSA championships. The mag fed UltraMag50 is another to look at, they're also working on making it a semi.

Ok, I'm learning. I will not be competing with this rifle FYI.

Just for your Info.. I have had 2 leupold scopes go bad on my 50. I was useing a "mark4" 16 power with a doubler( doubles magnification to 32X) and the crosshairs shook loose from the recoil. I now use a nightforce 8-32x these scopes use a eched glass cross-hairs which can't vibrate under recoil and then break.. just thought you might find this interesting.. Ohh I shoot in the FCSA and doubt that a leupold would ever break from "normal" amounts of shooting..
