The P220 ST (stainless with rail) seems like it might be the perfect home defense gun for me. I have never owned a Sig though so I have a question about the trigger and how it works. Is it possible to leave this gun in a "cocked and locked" state, so that I click the safety off and then I can fire with a single action trigger pull? Or is it that the safety is also a decocker, so there is no way to put it on safe without also decocking it? I am worried about having to learn two different trigger pulls.

Thanks

The Sig 220ST doesn't have a manual safety at all. The decocking lever is only a decocking lever, not a safety. There isn't a safe way to leave it in a "cocked and locked" mode.

It's not that hard to get used to the first pull being DA and subsequent pulls being SA. Either try a friend's or rent one at the range. It doesn't have to be a 220ST that you try. The DA/SA mechanism is similar in all the classic series Sigs.

With some practice, you can easily hit a body at close range without problems while pulling on the heavy and long DA trigger. Don't expect to win bullseye matches with the DA pull, but it's entirely serviceable for what it was meant to be.

Ok, now I understand. I will try it at the range. Fortunately the P220 ST has a rail which means I could put on a laser which means I could use my patented Laser Trigger Control Training system to train on this which might make it ok. So many choices!

You may want to look into replacing the mainspring with a 19 lb version from Wolff springs. This helps the DA pull a fair amount and as far as I can tell, introduces no misfire problems.

Some Sigmeisters have gone to 18 lb springs, but I don't think that's a good idea on a carry gun. The factory spring is 21 lbs I believe.

As usual, I recommend hanging out over at Sig Forum (http://www.sigforum.com). A wealth of information over there.

For defense...you might try and stay away from the laser training. Instinct or "point" shooting is very valuble !!!!
