Very interesting. What sort of safety system are they using? Series 80? 70? Some new thingy?

It's a proprietary system that S&W bought the patent to. It's activated by the grip safety and doesn't effect the trigger pull.

Ok...but what are those thingies on the slide next to the ejection port?;g ;g ;g

Hey I've shot your gun: highrise beavertail grip safety, good sights, tuned trigger, checkered front strap. It's a little late for you to be a John Moses Browning purist, bucko. ;f
(sigh)(admits that external extractors may be the only way to get factory 1911s in the near future)
(decides to keep building his own)

well....you may have me there....but I'll never go that far...
I'm sure they work well, but it's ugly as sin...
Glad I'm in Good with Jardine... If I can't get a 3" CDP then I'll spend the two jillion dollars to have him make me one...
Besides all those things give that great auto feeling so I can rock the gun through a full mag...;e
I think they border on ugly. So much fluff, but still an external extractor (some like it, but I don't. Just try to change one)and a safety system like the trouble prone Kimber Series II guns. Almost have to wear sunglasses when looking at one of these things. Also, hat on backwards.
To each his own I guess.

They still need to improve fit and part quality on most of the guns I have seen. Also, I don't really don't care for them having their own sight cut instead of the standard Novak cut. It just makes finding replacement sights a hassle.
Those gripes aside, S&W does make some good guns and the customer service is generally excellent.

Wow they look very nice. I know I am looking right now at picking up a new 1911.
Just price one of those full loaded models. If they would stay with one basic blue full length and one commander size they might be affordable. Not everyone is into drug store cowboy guns.
As long as S&W keeps quality like it currently is with their 1911's I can see them selling many.
But.. as with all things, one has to wonder just how long before corners are cut.. Then the hardships will begin.
I for one am very happy with the SW1911 I own, and it has been the best 1911 I've ever purchased. I can only hope they keep things the way they are now.

I just bought the 1911Dk love it shoots great and made very well.

Before I will spend around 2000$ on my dream 1911, I will probably give a try to this one...

...for hard and dirty work (a lot of training) it looks good for me. My second option will be...Trojan 5.0, also very nice and more classic 1911. It's difficult choice.

That looks terrific, shooter! I've been very impressed with my PC1911. I got the black glass bead finish. It's fitted very precisely and I'm able to hold sub 4" groups with it unsupported at 25 yards.
Nestor which model is that? It appears similar to a 1911PD but the finish and grips are throwing me off.
Here's the PC1911

Looks nice, but that's a heck of a gap between the grip safety and frame for a hand-fitted price.

Erm Waktasz at the risk of joining you in being called a drug store cowboy backwards-hatter by the grumpy old sods who think more than one color is some kind of sacrilege - I have one.
Bought it off Gunsamerica for $995. Seller was Jay's guns of FL. Can give you more detailed contact info if you like just PM me.
It has been exceptionally reliable and accurate so far. But of course it's only a matter of time before the fact that it isn't matte stainless or traditional blue makes it fall apart or start shooting wildly. Being a newish shooter I don't have the experience to know how long it takes for that to happen ;g
However consider the non-laser version too unless you are keen on making this a carry weapon. The sights are excellent and I find the laser a bit distracting for range use personally. Plus then you're looking at $750 instead which doesn't hurt!
I'm waiting for Onpointfirearms to get them back in stock, the non-laser one was 750 and the laser was 863 so it's not too much extra. I just took a training class and the instructor was really keen on the lasers so I guess I'm jumping on the bandwagon here, but I really want to go with the lazer on this one.

Yep with that markup it's worth it as you could always sell the laser anyway and buy standard grips if you decide you don't like it.
Guess I paid the $130 early adopter penalty when I bought mine - cheapest I could find. At $863 it's a fine choice in its own right laser or not. you won;t be disappointed. I shot it again today - 100rounds of cheap A-Merc C3 just to see how it handled the stuff. Not a problem at all - 100 rounds went bang and 100 went pretty much where I aimed them - which of course in my case may not be exactly where I was TRYING to aim them but that's not the gun's fault!
I do like to use the laser at longer distances but for normal 7-15yd stuff I find the movement distracting. Unless you are a world class shooter that laser will move a bit no matter how still you try to hold - any little movement is magnified. Of course that's the whole point of being a better shooter so may even help me if I was willing to put a lot of time in with the red dot. But the darn thing shoots so well without it that I haven't done so yet.
Anyway for that kind of price you can turn it on or off whenever you please and still have a very fine weapon. I even like the look of the olive drab grips anyway.
About the only weakness I can think of is that the blueing seems a bit fragile. I put an idiot scratch on there even though I was being pretty light handed and careful. Probably not the best finish for someone who is very aesthetically picky and who still wants to use this with a lot of heavy holster carry. That said slide finishing is not too expensive if it ever needs it and the lightness is a good trade off. While I obviously don't mean to imply it's the coating that makes it light, I say that because the only scandium alloy lightweight commander-sizes they make all have the same finish. If they had a matte colored, uncoated lightweight alloy version I would choose it for that reason, but not to be.
I view the laser as more of a training aid for dry fire and live fire trigger control than a real advantage in a fight, although the way Langdon made use of it last weekend got me thinking it might have some actual tactical use.
