View Full Version : Anyone have slight burrs by their sights? compman 01-28-2005, 18:55 Anybody even new from the factory or when they put night sights on? Any Burrs around the dovetail area? thalo 01-28-2005, 21:18 Yes, on my DLC K9. It's my one criticism of a gun that is otherwise perfect. I almost complained to Kahr, but the gun shot so well, I didn't bother. It came that way new. At first I thought maybe they peened it to hold the sights in (I had heard some weren't fitting right) But my Elite has a perfectly smooth dovetail area. The only problem the burrs cause me is a fairly minor one... going in and out of my carry holster, sometimes they bring up some leather. The only place my DLC has worn through is very tiny spot right on the burr. compman 01-28-2005, 22:27 I have on ore two with real small ones on the corners of the dovetail. Not noticable unless you have a microscope or are really looking. My Elite's all came perfect and cleaner, too. Amongst other things. thalo 01-29-2005, 21:22 Yeah, same here, brother compman. I figure you have to be really picky to be bothered by it. Oh wait, I AM really picky, lol. But if you have a chance to make a suggestion to your buds at Kahr, tell them that it's disappointing to see that, considering the fit and finish of the gun otherwise is spectacular. c_w_cunningham 01-31-2005, 06:48 I've never noticed anything on my sights, except my PM9 front sight is very slightly bent to the left. I might care except the gun shoots to point of aim. thalo 01-31-2005, 07:11 Yes with mine, it's a totally cosmetic thing. On the K9 with the blackened DLC finish, the aft dovetail areas are burred, Just a bit of metal deformity. these should have been ground down before the finish was applied. compman 02-01-2005, 09:16 Thalo, Are you a perfectionist like myself? Atleast when it comes to my guns, and adult toys(the cars, bikes, computers,). One guy who is a professional shooter saw it and said on a factory gun it wouldn't bother me so much but on a custom gun it would make him furious. Well, I don't have the money to be buying $3000 custom guns so therefore, my factory gun is just as important. The great thing though, is I know(and not because of my relationship with Kahr) but if it bothered me enough Kahr would fix it and make it right. thalo 02-01-2005, 18:02 brother compman, just out of curiosity, what do you think it would cost to have it fixed? would it mean a whole new slide? Or you think they could handle it like a gunsmith job and just grind them down (and refinish the DLC in that area)? I like my K9s so much, I probably wouldn't mind babying them if I had some extra money. compman 02-01-2005, 20:13 If the slide is stainless a dremel will file them down with ease as long as you don't mind shiney spots where the burrs were. The best way I have experienced is to use an exacto knife or scissors and cut as far down as you can get without really touching the frame. It will fix up the problem's cosmetics rather well but not perfect. thalo 02-01-2005, 21:09 Naw man, I think I'd rather have the burrs as they are, rather than grind them down and have bare metal areas there that will probably rust. If I could get them ground down and the slide refinished, maybe. Right now it's not bad enough of an imperfection for me to think about a whole new slide. I'm not that much of a Kahr maniac (not yet anyway :) ) I do have one area on the burr worn through the DLC... but it's only the size of a pencil dot, so no biggie. But this is something that would be nice to report to Kahr QA. The slide on the Elite is perfect. The one on the 9094 is the one with burrs on the rear edge of the front dovetails, both sides. compman 02-02-2005, 06:03 The elite is better in every way. It gets hands on attention. The inside of my first one was even polished on the metal to metal parts and shining, and the trigger was like no other, I fell in love and strongly believe you get what you pay for like anything else. The Elite 03 is worth the extra money but they are nowhere. I've searched nationally, Kahr doesn't store them like you think, and I do believe that now is the time to search for them. I bought that K40 covert yesterday because they discontinued a great model. Kahr's service leader agreed that it's a great model. I have no idea why they discontinued it. I am consistantly told by my friends at Kahr that I need to accept polymers because they don't sell the metal guns and are following the trend. Ironically, I started that thread some time ago and there were tons of people who were Kahr metal gun fans. ????? vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
