I live in Arkansas, and every gun store I call act like the USPc is such a rare gun and want to charge me out the ass for it. I want a variant 9 but the only thing they list in their catalogues is a Variant 1. Can a gun smith switch it over or something?? The best deal I could find was 790 bucks for a .45
in a variant 1. Is there anyway I can get the gun I want? Or, do I have to call down in Texas where there is a Gaylan's and order it through them?
edit: Got priced $905 exactly the way I want it through an H&K dealer and they don't know how long it will take to get in. AND it's out of state!
Well, what caliber do you want it in?

The model I'm lookling for is USP compact .45 in a Variant 9 with night sites. ;f
edit: I give. Out of 20 places I have called in Texas and Arkansas asking for the model listed above only one was willing to order it and that was for the price listed above for 905 without sales tax probably and then there is the cost of having it shipped to my state.
Look on www.gunsamerica.com maybe you can find something there!!
Most USP's are Variant 1. I suspect that a Variant 9 would have to ordered from HK, though a Variant 1 can be converted to a Variant 9 fairly easily.
If you have a local FFL who will do the transfer, try the following dealers:
Cal's (http://www.calssportingarmory.com/USPCompact.htm)
Bugs N Bullets (http://www.bugsnbullets.com/) - You may have to call.
McDonald Tactical (http://www.mcdonaldtactical.com/)
Ordnance Outsellers (http://www.ordnanceoutsellers.com/)
Bachman Pawn & Gun - 214-351-3628 - I bought a full size USP .45 ACP with night sights for $739, plus tax, last week at the gun show in Houston.

as Cawdor says, most USP's are variant 1.
there's not much difference between var.1 and var.9, only the lack of decocker function. are you comfortable with just buying a variant 1 and never using the decocker function?
the var.9 probably adds to the cost (maybe $50-$100?) and the night sights also add to the cost (another $50-$100) so that might explain the $905 you got quoted.
you might want to just grab the first USPc 45 you find priced under $800 local and just do the var.9 switch and the night sights at a later time... sucks I know.
let us know what you do, and post pics if you get something!
The decocker is a nice feature and I doubt it could accidentally decock the way most people shoot. I would find one on gunbroker.com and have it shipped to a pawn shop or an FFL willing to do a transfer.

Where can I get a detent plate from? I had a hard enough time just finding a pistol. Would a gun dealer beable to get me one? I don't trust alot of the guys at gun shows. The majority of the time I see Hk's they are used or brand new and cost more than some dealers.

Thanks a bunch for the info. I ordered a new USPc .45 today. You guys really helped me out with info and I'm grateful. I am going to order a detent plate also, along with my night sights.
Lt. I am not sure about the Galyans in Arkansas, but the ones in Georgia were bought out by Dick's Sporting Goods, and no longer sell handguns. I have never seen a Variant 9 anywhere, but I did happen to pick up a (less common) Variant 4 full size at a gun show. Good luck with your search or project-whichever you choose to pursue.

Same here in MO, I think it's the same everywhere.

Yeah, I called them first. We don't have one in AR but I called one in TX. I ordered my USPc through a gunsmith. So I finally have one in stainless. I thought I would hate the stainless but it grew on me.
