View Full Version : Threaded Barrels with a "Can" ???
Anyone have a threaded barrel with a "Can" on the end of their Kahr. Would make for an interesting set-up. A silenced PM9.
Not sure if the barrel has enough OD to start with, but you might want to try the Freefire Zone, where they deal with lots of NFA items.
FWIW I haven't seen any aftermarket extended barrels for Kahrs; almost like you'd need 2 guns to start with so (if there's enough outside diameter to begin with) someone could thread the thing 1/2x28. I'd think that role would be better filled by a 26 or 19, where aftermarket threaded barrels are available all over the place.
:)
Let me ask you guys a question? Do silencers really make your shot silent or that just in the movies? I have no problem walking around with a Coke can on the end of my Kahr.;f

If a round is travelling faster than 1130 feet per second (at sea level) there will be a sonic boom as the round breaks the speed of sound. A silencer cannot affect this other than to slightly slow a round that may be just over the limit and prevent a sonic boom. A silencer will also not affect any mechanical noise from the cycling of the action. When it comes down to it, a silencer is about as effective as a muffler on a car. It will reduce the noise of the powder burning and exploding out the end of the barrel but that's about it. For a sniper it can also act as a flash suppressor to aid in concealment. However, any serious sniper round will likely travel faster than 1130 fps and still make a boom.
Article2,
Good post. Very informative for me. Thanks guy. I like in the movies when the guy gets shot in bed with a gun that has a silencer and the girl next to him in bed doesn't wake up.

. . . and the girl next to him in bed doesn't wake up.
Maybe if she was a sound sleeper and the attacker used a silenced .22 caliber revolver loaded with something less than long rifle rounds. This would assume that the victim was cooperative and didn't make any major sounds or large reflexive motions. And didn't have a Kahr on the nightstand . . .
You can buy Remington 147 grain 9mm rounds- that travel about 990 FPS. Fitted with a "Can" I suppose you could drop it to below the sound breaking barrier to cover the noise signature. My thought was that I have seen plenty of Walther's with "Cans" so I thoughtfor those who live in NFA friendly areas this would be a cool addition.
BTW- when you shoot with a silencer on a rifle it still makes quite a bit of noise along with a loud pop. What they do however is drop the sound signature about 30-40 decibals and eliminate the flash entirely making it difficult to find where the shot came from. On a pistol you still get a pop but never like they show in the movies which they make it sound like someone just kicked a puppy or something.

As stated depends on velocity, usually dictated by caliber. Best description I've heard of subsonic 9mm is a car door slamming. A .22 however (absent using the HiVel or mini-mag type stuff) can be suppressed very nicely to make no more noise than a pellet gun. You will distinctly notice the mechanical noise of the gun. And, of course, there is the 'wow' factor I suppose as everyone else on the range will probably come over to see who the "spook" is that's practicing.
I've been thinking of one with an AA kit simply for pest control on a piece of land that adjoins land used by some folks who run a trail-ride operation and whose customers come to get away from stuff like random gunfire. ;j
Again, the Freefire Zone has alot of expertise hanging around.
