The lighting is bad down here in the dungeon, but here's a pic of the material things in my life that keep me relaxed and prevent this guy from going nuts.

I'm as good as I have to be. In the spring through the fall, I race at the premier offroad track around the Chicagoland area. I've been doing the RC thing since late 1987. It's only in the last 5 years that I've gone to nitro. It's fun but it's still a challenge.
If you're new at this hobby, I have to strongly recommend that you check out RC Zone - CLICK HERE (http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=114)
If you're having problems starting it, check to make sure you have FRESH fuel. I'm partial to Byron's but get what's in your area. Next, you'll want to get a new glow plug and a fresh battery in your plug igniter. You probably have the EZ-Start thing, so make sure it's charged. It's really important that you get a NEW plug. On average, a glow plug will give you good performance for about 6-10 tanks of fuel. Get somthing like the McCoy MC59 or equivelant. Replace the fuel and pressure lines because they develop pin holes that make starting and tuning a real pain. You should set the carb mixture settings back to the factory settings (I'm assuming you have the same engine, pipe, carb that comes stock); Here is the info right from the Traxxas FAQ...
The first adjustment should be your idle speed. Set your throttle opening to 1.5mm open with the throttle arm pushed all the way towards the head of the engine. Next, set your low speed mixture to 1 3/4 turns out from bottom. Last, set your high speed mixture setting to 2 1/4-2 1/2 turns out from bottom. These adjustments will vary a little from engine to engine. They are meant to be a guideline. Your engine, after it is broken-in, should be adjusted according to its performance. Here is the source - CLICK HERE (http://www.traxxas.com/support/faq/trx_faq_nitro03.htm)
I don't know how much your engine has had. The engine's piston and sleeve will normally last between 3 and 5 gallons of fuel (granted it's not tuned excessively lean) It may have lost it's compression if it's been used a lot. In that case, goto the hobby shop and pick up a rebuild kit for your engine.
I hope this little bit helps you out. Get on the Traxxas website and some of the many RC forums out there, and look around. Lots of excellent information to make RC'ing fun again.
Here are a few more pictures of my RC cars with the lids off. The nitro one is an Ofna Hyper7 PCR Pro with an OS VZ-B VSPEC .21 engine; the electric is a Team Losi XXX4 Graphite Plus 4wd buggy with a Novak SS5800 brushless motor.

Heh, I'm not sure as to what you are referring to, but RC cars make good moving targets, obviously you don't shoot the cars, you tie helium balloons to them with differently colored balloons, and try to shoot one without shooting the other, all while driving the car around.. It's great fun!
