This was my mother's carry pistol. After she passed, my dad and I dug it out of the bottom of her purse. It was zipped up in a small lockable pistol rug, and it was loaded. I think she was planning on whacking a BG with her purse instead of presenting her CCW piece, LOL.

My dad gave it to me. I have the box and the receipt so I know when she bought it and how much she paid. Without digging it out, I believe it was $189 OTD.

I don't think she even shot it. I cleaned and lubed it and put couple hundred rounds of 22LR through it. At first it was a jamomatic. But since, it's a reliable little shooter.

Before I moved to FL, we lived in OH and I would use it to dispatch racoons that I caught in a live trap in my barn when they would come eat my barn cat's food.

Nice little piece. I love the flip up barrel to "top 'er off" or unload it. DA is long, but not bad. SA is clean. Can even carry cocked and locked, LOL.

So, does this qualify as a SNS candidate?

edit: purse, not person, oops! LOL

Not sure if it qualifies but its a nice looking gun with sentimental value. All it matters is you like it.

I also own a Beretta Bobcat in 22LR, the only difference mine being stainless steel. Beretta claims the same quality is built into the Bobcat as in their other handguns, including the 92FS. I would have to agree, in as I also own a 92FS. Both are well made & reliable.
As with many handguns, especially rimfire semi-automatics, they need broken in; and quite often prefer one brand of ammo over another.
Although the Bobcat is relatively inexpensive, it is at the same time, considerably more expensive than many similar sized/caliber handguns.
To sum it all up; in my opinion, the Bobcat is a nice little gun. ;f

Nope not a SNS.

And you may want to edit this line in your post. I was a little confused by it for a second.

Jennings = junk.
In 1983, I purchased a new 22 caliber Jennings semi-automatic pistol for $45 plus tax, and traded it off within a month.

A good friend had a .25 caliber Jennings. I told him I would try to sell it for him. I took the rube, I mean, buyer, out to the range.
No matter how hard I tried, I could not get that litte POS to fire.

No sale!

My first gun was a Jennings J-22 that I bought when I first turned 21. It cost me 70.00, and I took it to the range the next day. The first round fired, then stovepipe after stovepipe. I told the guy at the range what my gun was doing and he suggested some Aguila Supermaximums (30gr @ 1700fps I think) and those seemed to work much better. Then I tried some CCI stingers, and those were my round of choice for that gun. They only jammed maybe once every 50 rounds, and had one hell of a flash from that tiny barrel.

I fired well over 5000 rounds from that gun, but now the extractor is so worn out it will not extract the spent casings. If I could find a new one I might re-resurect the J-22.

Proud owner of a Phoenix HP22.

I bought one for my first handgun when I turned 21. Paid $85 at a pawnshop. After about a year it started falling apart, so I sent it back to get fixed. A couple weeks later, a brand new gun was delivered by UPS. I guess a new one was cheaper than trying to fix it.;f

About the only time it sees the light of day now is when I take it with me when I go fishing.

with a little work you might be able to turn it into a cool cigarette lighter.

I've been to an over-priced, exclusive Beretta Gallery, and I've seen one of those nice little .22's decked out with gold do-dads & exotic wood. Although it's not a piece of junk, and it's not cheap, in my opinion it certainly qualifies as a Saturday Night Special, but my definition my differ from others.

If we named this forum The Junkyard, then that Beretta would be inappropriate, but IMHO all mouse guns can be included in the larger group called Saturday Night Specials, whether they are single shot muzzle loading derringers as used by John Wilkes Booth or the Deer Gun from the Vietnam era, or the ubiquitous Raven .25.

YMMV.

I think to qualify as a SaturdayNiteSpecial these are my suggestions...
1 a handgun
2 cost was under $200 OTD,NIB (new)
3 size to conceal in a pocket, pants, shirt
4 caliber .32acp or less
5 quality doesn't matter, some SNS's are good

What do all you other SNS fans think?

og.....this leaves out my little NAA .22magnum 1-1/8" and my KT P32.

an sns can be anything. It could be one of those homemade single shot 12 gauge deals made out of 2 pieces of pipe and a nail. anything cheap or rigged up constitutes as an sns

A nice pistol made by a good company. Load it with CCI mini mags and it likely be a great shooter. and we all know that the 22 in you pocket is better than the 45 at home.
