Shown here is the Model 8, the world's first competition derringer, fitted with an Adco red-dot scope. The 8 inch barrel provides match quality accuracy, which when combined with the quality of an American Derringer, makes for one serious competition gun.

As he leapt onto the stage after leaving a .41 caliber hole in the head of President Lincoln, John Wilkes Booth shouted: "Sic semper tyrannus" which is still the official state motto of Virginia.

This is a model of his original Philadelphia Deringer, made by Henry Deringer back when they didn't need double r's.

Had a .22mag std. Cobra derringer. The top firing pin stayed pushed out at all times when I first got it and the hinged barrel would not close with rounds loaded. It was easy to fix. Just removed the cover plate over the pins and ground the top pin off just enough so it wouldn't stick out during loading. This POS could have produced a serious AD if I had tried to slam the barrel shut against that protruding pin.
After I "fixed" it, then to my horror the trigger pull was terrible. It would fire but had to put two fingers, one right hand and one left hand on the trigger to get it to fire. Gave it back to the dealer.

Oddly enough, I have a Cobra .32acp derringer that is fine. It has different looking pins and cover plate. Makes a nice little SaturdayNiteSpecial. As some call it....a pimp gun...but cute.

I had the Davis/Cobra D-32(acp)

Strange as it sounds,it always worked and was accurate enough for its purpose.Came close to using it once as a Night cashier against a shoplifter who flashed a weapon when I confronted him.Fortunately he walked away...probably thought it was a lighter.;Q
Definately have to be careful and remember to go to half-cock on the hammer before loading,or the FP sticks out.;P

very true, Berto, the half-cock is the only real negative about the .32Cobra, or else the firing pin sticks out. Maybe one other negative and that's don't shoot +p like CorBon ammo in it either. Probably work OK but the aluminum frame would be damaged in time.
Other than that, my .32Cobra is a keeper, if even for just a collectors gun.

I had a Bond 9mm derringer a few years ago. The recoil was horrendous!! And the barrel hinge release was on the left side. I had to wear duck tape on my thumb to keep from getting bloodied. Besides, the Bond all SS was big and heavy. Real heavy! Made my pants pocket sag. Not a SaturdayNiteSpecial at all. Traded it.

The Cobra has the barrel hinge release on the right side and no bloody thumb problem (for right handers). Light weight too, fits in the pocket like a SNS should. I'll keep my Cobra, thank you, no Bond.

How about this one,

I bought it as a kit at Kmart about 30 years ago.

Very nice! What is it?

I remember when K-mart sold guns!

.44 cal smooth bore.

Don't remember what the brand was. IIRC it cost about $20. They had a double barreled model and one that was a "Duck Foot" with 3 barrels spread at angles, but only 1 hammer and nipple on it. They were more expensive and I couldn't afford them. The serial number is stamped on the under side of the brass receiver, but it's so poorly done you can only read about half the numbers. It was a kit, I had to sand the grip and finish the barrel. I originally did it with cold blue cream. Later on I hot browned it. No sights on it, it takes 20 grains of 3F black powder and a patched round ball. At 10 paces I can usually hit a 55 gallon drum, it only dents the metal.

It was the first handgun I ever fired so I keep it for sentimental reasons.

Just found a place that still sells them. (price has gone up a bit though)

I also still have the Marlin Model 60 I bought from Target with my paper route money.

Remember when Target used to sell firearms?

Nope, I first saw a Target less than ten years ago, but I remember Woolco.
I bought a Ruger New Model Super Single Six there (.22LR & .22 mag cyls) with an employee discount for about $75.00. That was my first handgun purchase, but I almost chose a Universal Enforcer (semi-auto handgun version of M1 Carbine) in .30 Carbine instead from a pawn shop for the same price, but the ammo seemed too expensive at that time, and I wanted to learn to shoot.

I still enjoy my Ruger, new ones sell for about $250-300 at gun shows.
I can't imagine how much a Universal Enforcer would be worth today!

Hey, now...
http://www.amderringer.com/pix/m1.jpg

How'd my little Angel get slandered by this appearance in the Saturday Night Special section of GT?!?

Seriously, the Target versions might qualify, but this little number in .45 ACP has watched over me for more than a decade.

It is just as important to my well-being as my G30, I can tell you that...and very nearly as well made.
