I am struck by how expensive nice guns are. It's no big deal to pay $500 for a nice firearm. However, this is really way over the budget of many, many people, who would like to have guns for self defense or plinking around for fun. Add ammo, and a ccw permit fee, etc, and gun ownership gets taken away from too many.
