Does anyone know how the GAP compares to the .40 in recoil? Is the GAP good enough to shot through a car door or glass if I had to in a self defense situation? What is the penetration like? Everyone says the .45 is the best for self defense but I always hear it was just a big fat slow bullet. To be honest I don't really know much about this stuff. Where I am from there is a high chance there will be more than one attacker and I might have to shot through something. So my fears are that it will not penetrate or I will run out of rounds compared to what a G23 holds. What are your suggestions?

I shot a .40 cal glock (G22) back to back with a full size sig 9mm(don't know the model) and the recoil felt the same to me, so it's not a question of not being able to handle a .40, but just how it compares to the GAP.

Thanks

The closest ammo I have shot that matches 40 in recoil would be the speer 185 lawman. Everything else seems like it pushes but those 185 speer are really snappy.

I've found recoil to be a non-issue EXCEPT for the 230gr loadings. They are a bit stout to say the least. I wish the pistol was a bit heavier.

Thats funy because everything i tried felt about the same except for those speer lawman 185s.

Recoil is very subjective (hence the completely different opinions here).

I shot my first G37 yesterday (my dept is exploring the possible transition to .45GAP from .40. I went into work and was given some ammo and ordered to T & E a G37! ;f )

Anyway, in a side by side shoot, G37 w/ Speer Lawman 185gr. FMJ vs. G23 w/ Blazer 180gr. FMJ (I know, I know, full-size vs. mid-size), I thought the G37 had alittle less backward recoil and alot less muzzle flip.
I would have rather been testing 230gr. ammo for the GAP, but it's all I had that day.

To me the G-37 has a recoil muzzle flip similiar to the .40, what I do like about
it in particular is that the case is a better design than the .40, the GAP being a
stronger case.

I have a G37 and like it(recoil wise) far more than my G23 or my SIG P220. The G37 isnt as snappy as my G23 but doesnt push as much as my SIG. I'de say its right in-between the G23 and the SIG in my book. That being said, I would pass on the SIG for home protection over the G37 due to its capacity and equall stoping power.

Recoil may be subjective, but it can also be scientifically measured and the 230gr loading generates more felt recoil. The latest issue of Gun-Tests has an article about .45 GAP ammunition.

I shoot Winchester 230 grain FMJ at the range and I prefer them over the Speer Lawman 185 grain rounds. "Snappy," an adjective others in these forums have used to describe the Lawman and .40 caliber, is what I would say too. Although I have never shot a .40, I have an inherent bias towards this round I can't shake. But let's get back to the Winchesters; they feel very good to me, although I have 200 grain Gold-Dots at the house and practice with them occasionally just to remind myself how they handle. Federal Hydra-shoks had the most intense recoil for me out of the group.

I have never fired the 45GAP, but considering the energy it generates and the lower pressure it operates at, I would think the recoil would generally be less than the 40s&w.

Everyone's perceptive of recoil is different. I find the 40s&w and especially the 357Sig to have more felt recoil than the 45ACP. Again, I have never fired the GAP.

I've compaired my G37 with my CZ40b with several rounds of each, the 40 is snappy, while the G37 has a push,I perfer the g37 it has never jammed on me,no FTE,FTF and feels easy to handle
