Who else would be interested in a forum dedicated to unarmed self-defense? We could trade ideas, training regiments and techniques all within our little gun-toting community. Of course martial artists of all stripe would be welcomed, from white belts to ninth degree black belts. I figure that on a forum with so many people interested in self-defense, it had to make more sense to discuss those rare occasions when you don't have your lead spittin buddy with you.

edited to add: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, white belt

This is always a valid subject, because you're not always justified in using your gun. It'll also be good to see some martial artists on the forums. So many people I know that practice martial arts are vehemently opposed to guns. Guess they're unable to deal with the fact that all their years of training can be instantly nullified by a 90 year old woman with a revolver. I like WWII combatives, myself, but will use anything thats dirty, fast, and unfair. Count me in. Are we talking knuckles and feet only, or do we include weapons of either blunt or sharp persuasion?

Besides if all else fails, I'll drop the hammer. (Kick in the stones and run like hell!)

Your right...

It's a sport AND a Martial Art.

Plus, my TKD Master can kick your boxing and wrestling coaches asses at the same time while he watches TKD on the olympics and drinks a redbull.

I know your kidding but I have no respect for TKD. Its like the Macdonalds of the martial arts its avaiable everywhere its cheap and its not that good. I have compeated as a kid against my share of TKD people. There easy to beat step inside there kicking range and pummel them or take them down. I have seen my share of TKD people get their buts handed to them on the street. As a defensize system Boxing is far better so is wrestling. And those arts are somewhat limited. In my opinion the best art is Jijitsu and Judo. Grapplers usually win in the real world.

Most TKD schools now are primarily focused on being a family MA center with "2 free weeks and a free uniform with this coupon!" crap, but there are still schools and teachers out there which teach you the way your supposed to learn.

My TKD school tought WTF TKD and Combat Hapkido as a single program. Hapkido is a grappling based korean MA disipline.

Unfortunately, most individuals become point sparrers in their TKD journey and stick with that. That's where getting into street fights "gets there butts handed to them", as you said. I guess I got the best of both worlds. :)

I'm also going to have to disagree with TKD being the Mickey D's of the Martial Arts... That trophy obviously went to "Karate" a long time ago.
After all, they never made a "The Tae Kwon Do Kid" I, II, or III did they?! ;f

My initial thought was "hell no". A forum like that would have more dogma, fighting, trolling and immaturity than the Religious Issues forum.

Then, I thought, "why not?" if a few simple rules were followed. Like:

1. No "My art is better that your art.
2. No opinions can be given unless the poster has at least a full year training under an instructor (seminars do not count). Questions from novices would be fine. After over forty years worth of training, I grow weary of white belts with a philosophy.
3. No one would say, "I study Glock-Fu".

Then finally, I came to my senses and vote "yes" on a such a forum.

After all, who the hell am I to have an opinion?

OK, I just advertised this thread on some other GlockTalk forums, let's see who follows this link:

http://glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=346475&perpage=25&highlight=&pagenumber=1

And if we don't include boxing, wrestling, knife fighting, WW2 combatives along with Krav Maga and various asian martial arts, we will probably not get a wide enough cross section.

I say let everybody in, whether it's Dog Brothers stick fighters or cops with PR-24, whether it's sport oriented like the world's #1 martial art (TKD) or whether it's combat oriented to the point that it's unsuitable for children or those unwilling to risk training injuries; include the esoteric mumbo-jumbo like Chi and tiger balm along with medieval sword fighting and fencing.

Let everybody in, so we can get this forum started.

Then we can have a big fight and kick the losers out.

Except fake WWF style wrestlers, keep that crap out.;)

I'm not passing out the numbers, I already do that on OAF.

gr81disp got this thing started, he should be #1 if he wants it, and he should pass out the numbers and keep count until we hit 50 if he wants, or has time. First choice if he wants it, but no obligation. Starting this forum was a good idea.

Otherwise, let's ask G33, she signed up second, plus she's a moderator and active long term member.

Or someone else can volunteer to count signatures & assign numbers.
Anybody else interested?

Sounds great to me!

Thank you for the responses recommending me to be a moderator.

As far as the name, I like "Martial Arts Forum" the best for a few reasons:

1)- Not all martial artists practice exclusively for the purpose of "being a good fighter"- for that alone, we wouldn't need a new forum, but just continue to post in T&T;

2)- A generic name, such as "Martial Arts Forum", I think would attract a greater number of people than "Kung Fu Fighting", etc., and a greater variety of discussions.

3)- There are a number of people on GT who are both martial artists and great thinkers (and posters). Some of them might be turned off by a name such as "Fight Club", etc.
