What is this medal ?

Was helping friend clean out and this was in with loads of stuff. I have no military experience but the friends family did.

Here's a good guess, at least a starting point. This looks like the medalion part of a military decoration. The initials GMA may refer to Georgia Military Academy. They became The Woodward Academy in the late 60's...

Thanks, you are most likely correct. I will let it hang on my bench area for now. The fellow who earned it was about 75 years old, if it was his.
