Which scope is a better fit for a 30-06 deer / elk hunting rifle and what about one for a Ruger 10 / 22?

1. Bushnell Sportsman: 4 - 12 X 40 with adjustable optics
2. Simmons 44 Mag: 6.5 - 20 X 44 with adjustable optics

Big Game rifle will be used 8 - 10 times per year with shots up to 300 yards; 10 / 22 with bull barrel is used every 10 days at a local range.

I'll take a quick stab at this as I own both those scopes.
I like my Bushnell Sportsman better simply because it seems to hold it's zero better than the Simmons over the length of the season.
If you already own these scopes, I'd go with the Bushnell.
That being said, let me just drop a word of advice that I finally figured out after all these years concerning scopes...A quality scope will last many, many years and NOT require the constant upkeep and maintenance that a cheaper scope will demand.
You might spend a few hundred dollars for a good scope, but you'll never be disappointed in it's performance.
As a strict rule, I now put as much money in the glass (scope) that I do in the rifle. I personally want the glass to be as accurate or better than the rifle. I learned this after shooting a buddy's Weatherby with a $1200 Swaroski (sp?) scope.
Just my opinion, hope that helps.

neither. if you want a bushnell the only ones i'd take would be the Elite 3200 and 4200 scopes. the 3200 2x7 goes for around $175 here it would make a top hunting scope for a 06.

Of the choices I’d take the Bushnell… Simmons just ain’t been cutt’in it these last few years.

I’d rather have a Leupold though. :)

For $175 you can get a used VXII Leopold 3-9 in 'excellent' condition. 'Why buy new when used will do?'.

Leopold guarantees their scopes for life. And, they will recondition them for free. I'd much rather have a used Leopold than a new Simmons or Bushnell.

because he asked about bushnells or simmons. for that matter leopold sells a rifleman series at wally world for just over 200 bucks.
nikon buckmaster scopes are good deals for the money and weavers can be had for under $300. i have the old bausch&lomp elite 4200 and 3000 scopes that i've used with great success.
